not advocating starting your law school career by breaking the law but I had my super put in my unit last year, no bracket, no cost. Then I took it out, put it in another window, no bracket, no cost. If you've done it before, it's not any different in NYC. Just a thought.

This will be a new experience for me. In Houston (and everywhere else I've lived) no building is without central Heating and Cooling.

I always wondered about why they don't install those systems, but I guess it would mess with the architecture? or something of that nature.

Yeah I think it can be pretty costly to retrofit a building. Probably not worth it when you only need it three months of the year.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards just getting a heavy duty fan since I'd only need it for ~1 month this summer. The reviews on Amazon say that this particular one can reduce temps by 10-15 degrees. 85 --> 70-75 during the day, and in the 60s during the night. As long as there aren't anymore 95-100 heat spells, that seems doable... or maybe you guys think otherwise haha

I hope not! Without any weird weather, it should stay around mid 80s for when we get there in august. Unfortunately, after this year's weather, nothing is really predictable.

How hot your place is going to get really depends on what floor you're on and what side of the building you are facing.

When I saw my apartment it already had a window air conditioner in it (and no one is currently living there) so you might find one for free when you move in.

Oh nice. How did you find that online? Although I guess you're in lenfest and that's maybe a bit more modern, amenity-wise, right?

My Lawnet photo was approved, but my general ID one (https://webphoto.columbia.edu/) got rejected. Wasn't sure if we needed to submit to both directories... so I'll just have my picture taken for my columbia ID when I arrive in New York.

For Lawnet, if you go to the admitted students portal (http://lawnetportal.law.columbia.edu/we ... my-account), it should say "Your photo was approved" right above your picture.

Dear Incoming 1Ls,

Submit your official student photograph via LawNet by TOMORROW, July 11. If you miss this deadline, you will need to stop by the photo area on the first day of Orientation. Be sure to check out the orientation website for more information on upcoming deadlines.

Thus, I think submitting to Lawnet covers both?

Lawnet might cover both. I submitted the general one simply because I found a link to it. If anything, you can always get your picture taken at Columbia, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't think it covers both. My lawnet one got approved apparently, but when I went to the Columbia ID (this is what will go on your student ID apparently) and it said I hadn't submitted one yet. So I put in the same one, since the requirements are almost identical. It should take 2-3 business days for that one to get approved or denied. I didn't show much of my shoulders so we'll see how important that is for them.

They should be the same photo. I only recall ever uploading one photo (the one to lawnet). That photo is the one that got printed on my Columbia ID.

August doesn't get that hot and you can definitely get by with just a fan. However, if you plan to be in NY during your 1L summer, it might not hurt to get one now and start using it right away.

I will definitely be in the "I'm to cheap for AC so I'll just grab a fan to get me through August crowd"

For Lenfest they have a website, the others only have general info on the UAH website under school-specific I believe

Surprisingly useful in certain situations, but not until your 1L summer. I think it'd be awkward to show up to the Spring firm receptions with business cards. However, for those that will be in a very good position to network with lots of firms over their summer employment, they come in real handy.
