It's not bad at all here. Many people do it. There is even wifi.JoeMo wrote:I've done Megabus Boston/NYC and it's AWFUL. Drive if you can.deevee wrote:Oh god that sounds miserable. Anyone know if they've ever offered travel stipends for ASW?

Just checked the email they sent last night. Didn't realize they subsized food and housing. They make it pretty clear that travel's on us. Thanks!Adm.Doppleganger wrote:I think this has come up a time or two ITT and I think the general response is no but they do subsidize hotel room. Will it be easy to get around using the local bus systems if I take the train into AA from Detroit? I'm thinking I may have to do a Wed night flight from NYC->Detroit and pay for my own hotel that night... hmmm.
Nvmd. I saw someone said they came in that morning... I'll probs do that. Did people rent cars or just go around by bus? I'd like to do some apartment-searching.

Re: Michigan Law Class of 2015
If apt searching I'd rent a car. Some buses run only every 30 minutes. That's easy enough to plan your commute around but not to go apt hunting. Just an FYI, the Detroit airport isn't in Detroit. It's about halfway in between there and A2. No idea where the train picks up but a cab straight here would probably be the same as to the station.sandwiches5000 wrote:Will it be easy to get around using the local bus systems if I take the train into AA from Detroit? If you decide not to rent a car, the Michigan Flyer bus picks up at the airport and drops off near a bus that drops off directly in front of the law school.sandwiches5000 wrote:Will it be easy to get around using the local bus systems if I take the train into AA from Detroit? Shuttle from Airport: http://www.michiganflyer.com/
Bus System around A2: http://www.aata.org/routes.asp
The Wolverine Tower Shuttle picks up in front of the high rise next to the hotel the Flyer drops off at, but only during business hours. There is also a route that picks up further down the block that runs better hours that will take you to campus, but someone else better versed in the bus system will have to help me out with the number

As for taking the train into Ann Arbor, you can hop bus #1 and then transfer to get to the Law School. The train station is over by the Medical side of campus instead of the Law School side.
If you are apartment hunting, you might want to consider renting a car though- you never know what the weather will be like and you don't want to spend valuable hunting time waiting for the bus.

The staff were rude, the pick up/drop off locations were random and in places you wouldn't want to be standing on the curb waiting for a bus. The driver was a horrible driver, we almost died a couple of times during our 4 hour drive and there were a lot of annoying teenagers on our trip. That might just be the type of people on public transportation between Boston and NY though.charliep wrote:

For anyone wanting to brave MegaBus A2 (I kid, I've actually heard good/neutral things about the A2-->Chi route), it picks up/drops off at the front of the Park and Ride Lot on State Street. You can take a bus from the Park & Ride directly down State Street to the Law School if you time it right...just check before you book or you'll be cabbing it fron the parking lot to the Law School, which is still probably only $5 or so.JoeMo wrote:The staff were rude, the pick up/drop off locations were random and in places you wouldn't want to be standing on the curb waiting for a bus. Re: Michigan Law Class of 2015
What is the process with respect to finding roommates? For undergrad, students usually presented answers to a standardized survey on facebook so that students could self-match. Is there any sort of a matching system? It seems late to wait until ASW to find a compatible roommate - but at this point - there seems to be no other system? I know this is an unusual year without the LC, but since we need to find roommates to live in many of the 1L apartments, it would be great if admissions would facilitate this in some way.

There's a facebook group for people who want to find roommates. I forget what it's called (MLaw Roommate Connection or something) but there's a link to it on the main UMich Law c/o 2015 group.

Wow, thanks for all the info people! I'm definitely going to consider renting a car. Haha... omg. I haven't driven in two years since I've been living overseas.
