Judging from the Michigan thread, they seem to be numbers-based - everyone who got the same amount as I did has very similar numbers.MissElphaba wrote:Are my chances at a scholarship lower if I didn't submit a Why Mich? Sorry if this has been addressed already, I'm a recent admit.

So, thoughts on Michigan at sticker?
...but really I just need convincing that it's not crazy and would not be a mistake. Help?

This totally depends on your goals, other options, etc., but I signed up for it, and although I was saved by a very slow year for applications, I think it's worth it. Michigan is amazing and I think anything less than a peer with money or a T6 acceptance would make me take it, no holds barredketchup wrote:So, thoughts on Michigan at sticker?

I am contemplating Michigan at sticker as well. The one reassuring bit of information I have is that Michigan's LRAP sounds amazing. They will help you repay your debt if you make less than $80,000, as long as you have a job that requires a JD. It doesn't even have to be a PI job, just any job. With that kind of promise, it makes Michigan seem worth it even at sticker?

Well it really only has to be "law related" so something like a lobbying firm or think tank that makes recommendations and drafts for legislators would probably count too. Obviously you want to check that but that is my understanding.aladdinismyprince wrote:I am contemplating Michigan at sticker as well. Does anyone know the agenda for the Preview Weekend? If it's from the 29th through the 31st - what time does programming begin on the 29th and end on the 31st? I'm wondering what time I should plan to arrive on the 29th and if I should leave the 31st or the 1st?

Does anyone know what the deal is with accommodations for ASW? Are there hotels reserved? Should I look into getting something now? Where does everyone usually stay?

IIRC, the official activities started sometime in the afternoon. I remember landing mid-morning'ish and then looking at a few apts prior. On the last day, it was like breakfast, which most people skipped. I went straight to the airport.ScrabbleChamp wrote:+3003. Ahhh. H'okay, thanks. I'm assuming info on how to sign up for this would be on U of M's website/my admitted students' log-in page? I'll go check it out.blowhard wrote:They reserve shared rooms at a discount. (Two people per room.)sandwiches5000 wrote:Does anyone know what the deal is with accommodations for ASW? I hear this quite a bit, but for me I think it would be more like a T4. Can anyone shed any light on any serious differences between a school like Michigan and places like NYU or Chicago at sticker? I don't really care about location and just want to do big law.descartesb4thehorse wrote:This totally depends on your goals, other options, etc., but I signed up for it, and although I was saved by a very slow year for applications, I think it's worth it. In this case is it simple as go to the school I like the best?

I think it is that simple. You make your career, not the school. Go with your gut.JustE wrote:I hear this quite a bit, but for me I think it would be more like a T4. Of course, name brand helps. But from what I gather Michigan places well with Big Law simply because these firms want a mixture of students from different schools. If I am a NYC firm I have all the NYU and Columbia applicants I can handle, a Michigan applicant would be a great addition to the mix.

Revisiting the idea of a Boston area brunch prior to ASW... anyone want to set up a Facebook event?

+1. A little frustrating, since they said it'd be open early January. It's the 17th.thelawschoolproject wrote:thelawyler wrote:Registration for ASW is not open yet, right?

Would anyone from Madison/Janesville/Chicago be interested in carpooling to the 3/15 ASW?

Maybe look at Megabus? It runs into A2 and then the city bus runs downtown.deevee wrote:Would anyone from Madison/Janesville/Chicago be interested in carpooling to the 3/15 ASW?
