Thank you! It looks like the funds are credited to our student account. What exactly does that mean? Do we then have the ability to transfer any remaining funds from that student account to a bank account?
And, my application was just approved for housing, so hopefully I get something soon.
Sweet! also just approved!
For the other question:
http://www.law.columbia.edu/current_stu ... FA/Refunds
It looks like if the amount we borrow is greater than the amount of tuition, fees, etc. we can apply for a refund and get the remaining money back through check or direct deposit.
I guess this is the process for retrieving funds for outside living expenses and books

Cool, thanks again for the info
I guess I shouldn't run into any problems setting up a new bank account then.

Wow. Location? Do you at least have a huge common area?
415 West 115th.
Yeah, there's a 12 X 13 common area. I probably shoulda asked for unfurnished (I didn't specify a preference; I figured I'd IKEA it or just enjoy being lazy if I got furniture included). I actually mulled over turning it down and going on the waitlist, but I didn't want to have to find something on my own if I didn't get UAH housing. God, I just hope my roommates are clean. And cool. But mostly clean.
I'm in the same building, same size room and I'm paying more.
ETA: My room is 13x13

Damn, that's a bit pricey. I hope I get something closer to the 1000-1100 price range.

An extra block away seems to make the difference.

Ahh I didn't see the 115th. My building seems to be right across from SIPA so I don't think I could be much closer. I didn't even request a close proximity actually.

for better or worse, the distance from the school makes little difference to price. Each building has it's own pricing scheme that's based on a bunch of factors.

I got my housing assignment.

More expensive than I was hoping for but there are some pretty sweet perks included so I'm considering taking it.

Yeah, Lions. I have a friend living there and she recommended it. Rent is steeper than I realized but it's unfurnished which I preferred. I sent a pretty detailed housing app in and she nailed about 9/10 out of my request. Sadly, price was the one that took a hit as a result. I am 90% sure I'll just suck it up and accept though. Good luck to those still waiting!

I'm also at 415 W. 118th. I have a good sized bedroom in a 2-bedroom apt, and it's also under $1k a month. I was actually shocked by how cheap it was. I think pricing has a lot to do with whether you're in law school only housing or in general grad housing.

I can buy that. The law school only ones seemed to be a bit steeper in price, based on my perusing of the UAH website.

If you email/call uah, they should be able to tell you the dimensions of your room. That's how I found out mine!

I wouldn't mind so much, but it seems like virtually everyone else has already gotten theirs!

Yup. I got excited after getting approved pretty quickly. Then nothing but radio silence - it's applications all over again
