Re: Northwestern Class of 2015 (now w/ 100% more Scarlet!)
Question about the email: will they be sending all the updates (like the finaid email, career email, etc) to this new NU Law email instead of the original email we gave them? It seems kind of strange to set up an account with them before you commit to attend, right? But if that's the only way you're going to get updates, it makes sense. This question would probably be better answered by just calling them, but I figured you guys would probably have some knowledge on the subject

They do SUCH a good job of making you feel like you're part of the NU family alreadykennethellenparcell wrote:I really love this school, even more after getting that portfolio and today my very own NU e-mail address. Are the e-mail addresses/log-in information sent out via e-mail or as part of some sort of snail mail packet?

So I'm a 2L at NU and from Chicago. I'm currently attempting to procrastinate reading the pile of cases sitting next to me, so if you have any questions...here I am.

Housing update!
I am beyond thrilled to report that I now have a home in Chicago! We managed to find a two bedroom with a huge kitchen and dining room in Lincoln Park for $1,450. Will be moving in March 1st.
It was an interesting experience for sure. I had looked for the past month online for places and set up a ton of appointments through both buildings own leasing services as well as brokers. We saw two high rise buildings, 1350/60 (I think this is right) Lake Shore Drive and 3311 N. Dearborn. The first was actually very nice. We plan to get a small dog so it was great they allowed for this and the buildings amenities were great. Apartment itself was decent sized with an updated bathroom and kitchen. The second building was a joke. Sure it has an outdoor pool you could use all of three months and decent amenitites but it was just tiny and not what I'd expected. I was getting a bit discouraged with these places knowing I didn't really fancy living in a highrise.
So, randomly walking around the Lincoln Park area is actually how we found our place. This is definitley different than New York or any other place I've lived. There were tons of apartments to be found just walking around neighborhoods you want to live in. We really lucked out. We found our place, called the number posted on the for rent sign and were able to see it and sign a lease within 24 hours. No, there aren't amenitites or the like but it is a darling place three times the size of our current apartment and in a great neighborhood (25 minutes commute to NU).
Can't wait to be moved in and meet all my future classmates!

Glad you found a great place! I still can't decide if I would prefer Streeterville/River North or Lincoln Park/somewhere else not downtown. Was space the most important factor in choosing your place?

Wow a 2 bedroom for 1450?! That's pretty damn good! How far is it from the school? Also, did you happen to see prices for any one-bedrooms or studios?elibrarian wrote:Housing update!

Space actually wasnt, location was really more important to me, I really wanted a neighborhood feel. It also helps that the SO can walk to his job from our new place and its only about a half hour commute for me.Samara wrote:Glad you found a great place! I will say while this place was the cheapest rent wise it will be about equal to the one bedroom highrises when you include utilities etc. The highrises we looked at were about $1550 for a fairly small one bedroom. No studio prices as that is not enough space for two people and a cat.

I highly, highly recommend First Amendment with DeSanto. He is a fantastic prof, and the class is really interesting (and you can take it as an elective second semester of 1L). Other profs I really enjoyed/know everyone loves are Len Rubinowitz, Dana and Barsa. I also love Redish, although I hear from people who were in his civ pro section that he's more "controversial" than some of the others (you either love him or hate him).Kikero wrote:Any classes/professors you especially recommend?Holly Golightly wrote:So I'm a 2L at NU and from Chicago. Think I'm going to skip the diversity weekend... It seems a bit shorter (1pm Thursday-9pm Friday) and I don't really have the cash to book the flight now.
Looks like I'll have to join you guys in April.
Anything interesting happen here in the last week?
Edited: I can't spell.

Did we decide on when/where the ASW meet up would be? I'd love to meet you all, but I'm still not quite sure how to venture into NH without feeling like I'm interrupting the lovefest haha.
