This is gonna sounds stupid, but what is a grant specifically in your case? Is it Need Based?

Good to know that no one else (that has posted on here) sees grants listed. Hopefully they'll be forthcoming.

My bad, I interpreted BigTexMex's post to mean he had gotten a grant...

Need based possibly. I have both Unsubsidized+Grad Plus and a Perkins on there, plus a 20K grant.DBishops wrote:This is gonna sounds stupid, but what is a grant specifically in your case? Is it Need Based?

Congrats on admission to Boalt! I just wanted to point out that you can post your questions about Boalt in this thread:
http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... &start=625
and me and other Boalties will try to answer them. You can also just PM me if you have specific or personal questions.
I hope to see you all at ASW!

Yeah, unless you've gotten contacted about a scholarship, that's a need based grant. Which means they are up.bigtexmex wrote:Need based possibly. Checking in. I got nothing today too. Really hoping this is just need based.
In regards to the matching program, if the decision deadline for the school providing the scholarship has passed/is about to pass and there's been no word from Boalt, does that mean the matching request has been denied?

These grants are just need based. Berkeley financial aid does not handle merit based scholarships. These are handled through the admissions office. I got roughly a $20,000 need based grant which is pretty awesome. I haven't heard anything yet about need based grants from UVA or Penn

If my FAFSA EFC was 0 should I expect a need based grant?
And for those that received their need based grants already, did you already update tax info for current year or not yet?

I submitted my FAFSA and supplement in late February after my parents and I both filed our taxes, so I used that data. It also actually depends on your parents' income/assets too. You can have a EFC of 0 since FAFSA considers you to be independent but that does not mean that the law school considers you to be independent so your parents' EFC could be significantly higher.Neatrends wrote:If my FAFSA EFC was 0 should I expect a need based grant?

So, if we didn't apply for finaid or whatever, is there any reason to bother checking the bearfacts site? Or is that all it is really for.

does the grant come as three years or just for 2012-2013 year? I got a small amount, but it seems only for the first year

Did you respond the the school acceptance or did they sent your need based grant offer without a commitment to the school? I do not see anything except loans on my BearFacts page, so I am wondering if this means no need based money for me or it is to early to freak out.Aspen wrote:These grants are just need based. I said that I was tentatively attending. I haven't fully committed yet. Who knows? Maybe they're not done processing need based grants yet or you're going to get some other scholarships instead. You should call Berkeley Law Financial Aid to confirm.EvelynS wrote:Did you respond the the school acceptance or did they sent your need based grant offer without a commitment to the school? Thanks! I will ask the FinAid office regarding need based grants during ASW.Aspen wrote:I said that I was tentatively attending. I haven't fully committed yet. Who knows? I didn't fill out anything. I also did not receive anything, not did anyone yet hear about merit scholarships. I don't think you would need to fill out FAFSA for a merit scholarship but I could be wrong.
Rumor has it, though, that Berk gives very little in the way of merit aid vice need based.
