You should also look into Brooklyn. Fort Greene/Boerum Hill/Park Slope aren't too far away from campus. Its about a 20-30 minute door to door commute for me depending on how long it takes for the train to come.JamMasterJ wrote:thanks dude. Chelsea and the UWS (not too far north though). I like what I've read about Park Slope, but would really love to be in Manhattan. Has anyone here lived on Roosevelt Island or in Battery Park City?chasgoose wrote:You should also look into Brooklyn. Roosevelt Island is a wasteland and Brooklyn is closer than battery park city to nyu

Re: NYU Class of 2015
question: for those of us unfortunate ones who are using loans to finance all of school, are y'all borrowing the cost of attendance? it seems a bit steep....how much should we budget for old and the like.

Is anyone else having trouble with Waiving/Enrolling in the Health Insurance program? I enter my ID and DoB and get a message saying they can't be found in records...

I used all of mine 1L year. I also lived on campus though, so you've really got to think about your budget and lifestyle. If you've never lived in NY before, the village is crazy expensive.jd20122015 wrote:question: for those of us unfortunate ones who are using loans to finance all of school, are y'all borrowing the cost of attendance? it seems a bit steep....how much should we budget for old and the like.

You can't waive the insurance program until you have been enrolled in classes. And don't worry about being charged- we have until September to waive without penalty.chemE_envlaw wrote:Is anyone else having trouble with Waiving/Enrolling in the Health Insurance program? Quick question. Has anyone's tax returns been verified yet? On FAAPS, my status is "Returns Received - Award Verification in Progress," despite me sending the returns in May.

I maxed out on loans after whatever award NYU gave me and I was left with like 3K extra each semester despite living in D'Ag. I'm also really cheap....but still, it can be done.jd20122015 wrote:question: for those of us unfortunate ones who are using loans to finance all of school, are y'all borrowing the cost of attendance? it seems a bit steep....how much should we budget for old and the like.

excited that you're here. Any idea where you're living.Killingly wrote:Excited to finally post here
Also, I just closed a 1 month sublet starting August 17th, so it looks like I'll be pounding the pavement from then until school starts, and then as possible until mid September.

I think I'm just going with the student apartments for the first year. Anyone have any idea which building is "better?" I'm leaning towards Mercer because I think I'd like the walk and the new renovations. Are there any perks to D'ag besides the proximity to the school? Odds are I'll end up in a two or three bdrm, which is fine by me.JamMasterJ wrote:excited that you're here. Any idea where you're living.Killingly wrote:Excited to finally post here

Where are you thinking of living, Jam?
Oh, and if anyone knows how I can accept my financial aid award, do tell! I also need to figure out how to apply for Grad Plus through NYU (I was approved through my old school but need to switch).

D'ag is also cheaper. But if you live in Mercer you get me. Not sure why I would need to sell Mercer any more than that.Killingly wrote:I think I'm just going with the student apartments for the first year. Anyone have any idea which building is "better?" But really I'll be happy to get shelter in either place.

I'd go with Mercer, because it seems like more of a real place and the rooms looked a little bigger.
I'll be off-campus, because the married housing sucks this year. I'm looking on the UWS, UES, randomly in the southern Manhattan neighborhoods, Brooklyn Heights, and Park Slope.

Mercer rooms are definitely bigger and nicer. It's also full of LLMs and fewer 1Ls, so that's a bit of a trade-off. There are still a lot of 1Ls in Mercer though.
Oh, I like the D'ag terrace better than the Mercer terrace. But Mercer has ping pong, pool and darts.

Re: NYU Class of 2015
Bumping for the quoted. My financial aid email says it wants me to "accept or decline" the award but I can't figure out how to do that with access to Albert or whatever. Also, does NYU have a special form they want for GradPlus? I had to do one through Michigan, so they didn't want us just going on the the student aid site and applying.Killingly wrote:

Also, is there anything else I can do before getting my netID? Chomping at the bit here.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
