62.5k scholly all but locks up my seat here (barring a miracle at Stanford or Yale, or NYU deciding to beat the scholarship).

Mind sharing your numbers? I want to see if I have any hope of a scholly from them. Sticker is scary.

>75 GPA, >50 LSAT

I was honestly surprised at how much I got from them. At most, I was expecting 25-30k. I did send in an appeal several weeks ago with my NYU offer as well as an MVP offer.

How good is Columbia about considering merit scholarships from other schools?

For those who are leaning towards, or have chosen Columbia over NYU, what was your thought process?

I'll be moving with my girlfriend, and finding an affordable one bedroom place near NYU seemed impossible. The Village is cool but I figured if I was going to have to live away from it I might as well go to Columbia and be right near school.

The better BigLaw placement is nice too, although I wouldn't let that be a deciding factor.

This thread feels neglected.

Top priority for me is figure out what my budget & loans portfolio is going to look like. Not the most exciting way to relax at the end of the cycle.

Same, and the loan applications are due on May 15 right? ugh.

I'm just going by the budget they provided for us since I think we can request additional funds at any time

We're moving it into here then? Sounds good.

I think I'm going to go w/ their budget and subtract 2k from Grad PLUS loans because I'll still be under my parents' health insurance plan. Yes, I doubt I'll use up all the money but I can then use this as data for planning my 2L and 3L budget.

New 50 hour pro bono requirement to join the NY bar.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/02/nyreg ... -free.html

Any ideas as to whether the 40hrs we have to do at CLS will go towards this? My hope is yes, which means we tack on 10 extra hours and then it turns into no big deal.
Judge Lippman said that while the preference was for work in New York, there would probably be provisions to allow recent law graduates to count work done while in law school elsewhere.

I'm sure they'll figure it out and let us know by the time we're actually fulfilling that requirement (2L or 3L is when you usually do it right?).

Yeah. A lot of people like to do the spring break caravans, which take out 40 hrs in one week.

I'm just one of those people that likes to have everything figured out from the start  can't imagine it being a big deal though, I'm sure they'll help us out

Sorry, it reminds me of high school when all the preppy kids were worried how they were going to get their 40 hrs volunteer work to qualify for national honors society. If you need a requirement to take the time to do good, I hate you. Pro bono work is different to be sure, but still.

Hahaha, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. Just want to be prepared is all.

ETA: I hope I'm not coming across as too gunnerish right now :x

Have you seen the UChi answering q's thread? You have a long way to go before you can be considered a gunner.
