Re: NYU Class of 2015
Which tends to have better views from the top floors, Mercer or Dag? Which is the best of the three Mercer options: Mercer, 3rd, or Broadway?

Well, I'm not a current student (yet!) so take this with a grain of salt, but...
Our tour guide was a 2L who had moved from Mercer to D'Ag so she could have some better views from her room. She also appreciated D'Ag's balconies, so that's probably the answer to that question.
In terms of the Mercer options, I think they're priced based on which side you select. Broadway is loudest, since it faces the main street, so it's also the cheapest option. Just from having been there, I'd think that W 3rd and Mercer are equally quiet and offer similar views. That option is probably just up to you. Or you can toss a coin.

At what point should I be concerned about not getting my netID? Deposited last Tuesday.

I deposited April 4, got the confirmation of deposit/ check for your netID email on April 12, and then my netID was actually available 72 hours later.ssteiner wrote:At what point should I be concerned about not getting my netID? Deposited last Tuesday.

Re: NYU Class of 2015
it says on the website that it should be sent 'within 10 days,' so I'd really only start worrying about it after two weeks. I'm not sure when undergrads get their IDs set up, but this has to be pretty much the busiest part of the year for whoever's doing it.

Re: NYU Class of 2015
Never got any sort of confirmation email, but I was browsing the admitted students website and clicked the University ID section, only to discover that I'd been issued a netID and University ID despite never being notified. So that's taken care of, at least!
Submitted my housing application- going for a larger two bedroom in Mercer. It's more expensive than I was aiming for, but when I'm studying I tend to need a lot of space to spread out all my things because for some reason it helps me think.

+1 to both. I got my confirmation e-mail several days after I found my netID on the ASW.zworykin wrote:Same here.ssteiner wrote:Never got any sort of confirmation email, but I was browsing the admitted students website and clicked the University ID section, only to discover that I'd been issued a netID and University ID despite never being notified. I applied exclusively for Mercer. I just looked at the very small spaces in D'ag and didn't think I could do it after being out of a dorm room for two years. I also thought the six-minute walk to class in the mornings would do me good

It'll be a six minute walk from your room to the street in Mercer, unless you're living way down low.crooked wrote:I applied exclusively for Mercer. My first choice was a studio in D'ag because I think it would be easier for me to go back to a tiny room than it would be to go back to having roommates, having lived alone for the past few years. Of course I don't actually expect to get one. Second choice is a 2B in D'ag and Mercer options come in at 3 and 4.

Those who got apartments through brokers, how much did you pay?

Re: NYU Class of 2015
Fees are typically in the 10-15% of a year's rent. Didn't check out your profile, but if you're K-JD, keep in mind that you will almost definitely need a guarantor to apply for an apartment through a broker (they want you to be able to prove that you make / have access to money 40-50times your monthly rent without a guarantor, and something like 100x that with a guarantor).law2015 wrote:Those who got apartments through brokers, how much did you pay?
I lucked out in that my roommate had parents that could act as guarantors for us, but that part was a huge pain.
(sidenote: NYU also has a pretty useful housing registry if you're committed to not living in the dorms and the broker thing doesn't pan out).

I also found that it was necessary to have a guarantor for the apartment. Thankfully my parents were willing to step in, but (agreed) it was a pain in the butt.indigomachine wrote:Fees are typically in the 10-15% of a year's rent. As for broker's fees- I got lucky and found one who asked simply for one month rent- it ended up saving almost $1500 compared to the typical percentage you might have to pay.
Suggestion: don't use the realtors suggested on NYU's off-campus housing info page. Instead, try searching on websites like hotpads.com, padmapper.com and good old craigslist.

Anyone genius enough to do what users somewhere and incompetentia did last year in terms of section schedules? I would do it myself but I have no idea how they did it.

I'm at work now, but I can try and do this later for you guys if I think about it. And if I can't figure it out I'll just email Inc and see if he'll do it for me.arez wrote:Anyone genius enough to do what users somewhere and incompetentia did last year in terms of section schedules? the housing registry is available from NYU Home. after signing in, you click the tab at the top that says "NYU Life," then scroll down and the link to the housing registry should be on the left.izy223 wrote:checking in also going to NYU this fall-indigomachine wrote:Fees are typically in the 10-15% of a year's rent. Got a 3 bedroom Mercer. I originally wanted D'ag but I'm kind of glad now. It will make the transition a little easier since I'll have a little more space to myself.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
