Beginning to think I will be attending GULC this fall. It is going be hard to turn down UT, but I think Georgetown is going to work best for my family and career goals.

I was named a "Scholarship Alternate". Does anyone know how many people get this designation or how many people in the past wound up getting $$ after being an alternate?

I just want to gauge how realistically I can expect merit aid, which would be a huge help.

I don't know if this helps holden, but they seem to try to do them pretty soon after the previous "wave" when people have accepted or turned down their scholly's. I know the first wave deadline was like April 1, mine is April 9. I don't know how realistic your chances are obviously, but they definitely are letting the money trickle down so I hope you get some good news soon.

After looking at some housing options and Gewirtz I think I'm going to spend the first year in Gewirtz (assuming I can get the lottery). I'd like to meet some people and look into getting a larger spot or possibly one of the nice homes in Silver Spring second year once I'm more familiar with the area, have a new social group, etc.

I'll probably shoot some PMs to some people I know are considering Gewirtz up here to see if people are potentially interested in rooming in one of the 2 Bedroom Larges (with the Living room. I'm willing to pay slightly more for the space and for those nights where your tired but don't want to be a dick and kick everyone out or your roomate's friends out because there's no common area) before I hit the FB group looking for potential roommates, so, you know, just let me know if your an ax murderer before I commit to living with you.

We are looking for a third roommate to join us in this lovely luxury building in beautiful Cleveland Park. This unit is a real gem for the price. One bedrooms in the building rent for over $1,800. There is a private swimming pool, an outdoor grill, our own private double balcony with views that stretch to Columbia Heights, and an in-unit washer/dryer. The service is the building is also stellar (24-hour service guarantee, dry cleaning, 24-hour gym, etc.). I promise you can't find a better deal.

The room rents for $1025 per month.

The current lease ends June 26 but we need to re-up with in the next 10-14 days to lock in our rate. The new occupant would need to sign the lease in a couple weeks. You would not have to pay a penny until the day you move in.

We are two young professionals (male, 25-26) looking for a third roommate (male/female) starting in late June/early July. We are tidy, clean, and neither of us smoke. We are both avid sports fans and are drama-free.

The bedroom that we have available is 10 X 12 and will share a bathroom with one person. The bedroom is wired for cable and has a stunning tree view out on to Porter Street. The unit has a large and sunny common area about 14 X 20 that opens up to our double balcony. The common area is fully furnished and the kitchen is fully stocked.

We have negotiated a great deal on cable and internet and utilities tend to be quite low. You can expect your monthly rent to be about $1075 total. There is garage parking in the building for $150 per month but street parking is free and parking is generally plentiful.

The building is about a quarter mile from the Cleveland Park metro stop. I work at Farragut North and the commute is about 20 minutes door-to-door metro. The neighborhood itself has wonderful restaurants and is a short walk to Rock Creek Park.

Yay! Just sent in my application as well. The prospect of moving/buying furniture in a few months also scared me away from an apartment for the time being.

I just got my award letter from financial aid and they were actually much more generous with the Dean's Tuition Grant than I expected. For anyone still choosing a school that thinks they may qualify for need-based you should definitely factor that into your decision.

+1. My need aid was larger than most students' merit aid (assumption). It really made me amazed how generous GTown is for needy students and is one of the reason I will be there in the fall.

I think, to an extent, they use it as merit as well. I got some and I definitely should not be receiving need-based aid. GULC was the only school to offer it to me, and it came after my first attempt at a scholarship negotiation.

I just recently got a hell of a lot, too. I could not find if it is per year for three years or if they will re-evaluate every year. If it's the latter, I worry that they might just pull funding for 2L and 3L after getting me to sign on the dotted line.

Need-Based Grant Assistance

Dean's Tuition Grants are awarded to approximately 1/3 of the full-time J.D. class based on financial need. The Dean's Tuition Grant Program is funded by Georgetown Law's general funds and by generous contributions from alumni, firms, foundations and other friends of Georgetown Law. Only full-time J.D. students are eligible for need-based grant assistance.
All applicants must meet the requirements to receive federal financial aid (e.g. valid citizenship, not in default on a prior loan) in addition to fully completing the Need Access application (or CSS Aid Profile) and an institutional application containing both the student's and the student's parents' data. To determine financial need, Georgetown Law uses this information to evaluate both student and parental financial strength. Federal income tax returns for the applicable year are used to verify the data provided on the Need Access/CSS Aid Profile forms for both the student and the parent(s).

Awards are generally renewable at the same level for up to 2 additional years of full-time study at Georgetown Law (1 additional year for transfer students). Changes significantly affecting the financial situation of the student, student's spouse and/or student's parent(s) may affect the level or availability of grant assistance in future years. In addition, students earning significant pay through summer employment (e.g., working as law firm summer associates) are expected to use a portion of their earnings for their education and, accordingly, are likely to have their grant assistance reduced for the following year.
In order to retain eligibility for grant assistance, recipients must demonstrate their financial need by, in part, annually borrowing their full eligibility for federal Stafford loans, at a minimum.

Dean's Tuition Grants are awarded with the understanding that there is a moral obligation for the student to repay the funds received. By accepting the grant award, the student accepts his/her moral responsibility to contribute to Georgetown Law when financially able to do so. The fulfillment of this moral obligation will help to replenish the grant fund and ensures that Georgetown Law will be able to offer institutional aid to future students.

Does anyone know for sure if 1L's will have class on Fridays this year? Our student tour guide mentioned they might do, but I never heard confirmation.

Also, does anyone know exactly how many credits are required for graduation? I can only find the credit breakdown by year (31 for 1L, 12-26 for 2L and 3L).

Being that you do 31 your first year, it'd be hard to not meet this if you are starting at GULC. [ 31 first year and 22 more needed after that. That's basically a semester and a half.] It basically keeps transfer students from studying abroad. No need to worry.

Hi all,

If anyone is looking for housing, I am moving to Brazil for the summer and need to give up my part of this wonderful apartment! You will be taking over my part of the lease. The apartment is available starting May 31st but we can negotiate an earlier start date if necessary. The lease officially ends July 28th and then switches to month to month.

The apartment is a 2br/1bath in the great neighborhood of Van Ness. The room available is a good size (10'4" by 15'0") with a walk-in closet. The main living areas are shared and very spacious. There is an awesome balcony for relaxing after school. The $1280 rent includes all utilities except for $20/mth for internet. Garage parking is available at an additional charge.

The complex itself has great amenities: an olympic size pool, laundry facilities on each floor, 24hr doorman, 24hr fitness center, on site dry cleaning valet and ATM, free coffee station, social room & media center with computers and free printing, faxing, and scanning.

It is located right next to the Van Ness Metro stop (Red Line), a minute away from Giant grocery store, CVS, the brand new Walgreens. All the other essentials are close by too, Starbucks, Potbellys, Gold's Gym, etc.

Your roommate is a Howard 2L. We are looking for either a male or female roommate who is clean, responsible in paying rent, a non-smoker and easy to get along with!

Hi. Does anyone have experience with the Senate Square apartments? My husband and I were thinking about living there until we read some harsh reviews, which depicted the place as a noisy and chaotic frat scene.

Most reviews were from 2009-11, and when we visited this weekend the buildings seemed fine, so we wondered if anything might have changed since last year. Their proximity to campus, interiors, and amenities make them semi-attractive, in spite of their online reputation.

Any sense what it is like being a GULC student there would be useful. Thanks...
