For the student funded fellowships. They auction off stuff like getting drunk with profs or going skydiving with profs. Students bid and the proceeds go to paying 1Ls that work in PI over the summer. There's free booze and it gets pretty crazy.ScrabbleChamp wrote:Auction?JustE wrote:This auction is fucking amazing. These guys and gals are a blast. GO BLUE!!!!

Well, I was already sold, but it's certain now. I'll be here in the fall. Make sure you visit. This is much better than the other ASW's I've been to.
Really wish everyone could go out with these guys. Only place people are honestly having an amazing time.

Does the Admissions Office make offers for need based aid as well as merit based aid? Does Dean Z. tend to consider your overall situation/contribution to the school when calculating offers, or is need based distributed on a blind basis (strictly according to the numbers, w/o knowledge of the information that qualifies a person for need?)
Thanks! Very curious as to how the mysterious aid process works.

Went to a cool place with outlaws tonight. It was really nice. Seems like we're convincing more and more people which is great, except we'll probably have a class of 590.

idk about u penn but uva totally fudges their employment stats. feel like u penn may actually be doing better. on the bright side, more scholarship money for the rest of us is right:)Adm.Doppleganger wrote:descartesb4thehorse wrote:Went to a cool place with outlaws tonight. I very well could be wrong but I imagine there are enough paranoid, dumb prospective law student that will chose UPenn, UVA, etc based on recession employment figures alone.
More room for us? eh?
Sounds like everyone is enjoying asw though!

Re: Michigan Law Class of 2015
I know everyone says that's a self-selection thing with Michigan being very PI-focused, but that's even more apparent coming here and talking with students. It actually was one of the few things yesterday that actually impacted me as opposed to just being the "ohmigod this is where I'm living for 3 years" rush.
That being said, I personally haven't heard Penn's name come up that much as another school prospective students were considering, which seems odd but obviously Penn does have much smaller class sizes. UVA, on the other hand, is a consideration for just about every other admitted student.

Re: Michigan Law Class of 2015
Admissions doesn't get involved in need-based that's strictly handled through the financial aid office. When I filled out my need-based form there was a section where you could explain your financial situation in detail. Like more about what might qualify you. I was filling out for 2 schools at the same time though so not sure which information goes to which school. I'm sure you can probably write the FinAid office if it's not part of the Michigan application and say here's some additional information that will help you understand my situation in its totality. Can't hurt.Geneva wrote:Does the Admissions Office make offers for need based aid as well as merit based aid? Admissions has nothing to do with need based aid. Need based is all done by the office of fin aid.Geneva wrote:Does the Admissions Office make offers for need based aid as well as merit based aid?
