I've received my letter and I can log in to ASW...

Try making sure you're logged into ASW and then clicking directly on this link

Okay, that worked and now I can see the Your Credentials page...don't have a Go Card ID listed yet, but at least I know it'll be there soon hopefully! Thanks for the help!

Has anyone heard anything on the status of the congressional law clerk program? At the end of this article it says that, regardless of Congress's decision, Dean Treanor was going to have two congressional clerkships funded by the school. Has this happened yet?

financial aid yellow form=seriously time intensive. It also seems a little redundant...I'm pretty sure I've answered all of these questions already on both the FAFSA and Need Access application...

Just wondering how long was it after you guys got access to ASW before you got that ID thing you need to fill out the yellow form? Still waiting and anxious to finish all this aid stuff...

Does anyone know the best way to negotiate with GULC for scholarship money?..Normally I would think you would need high numbers, but I hear about lot of people getting merit-based with median or below-median numbers simply telling the school that it would be difficult for them to attend without money, and they get some money..How would applying ED affect this?? You have to go to their school, so I guess they have no incentive to give you money now..Anyone know how to negotiate with them for money if applying ED?? (Does applying ED affect the amount of need-based scholarship money one can get?) Other than the need-based which you can only get after doing fafsa, etc, and loans obviously, the merit-based scholarships are the only other type of money u can get from the school right? Thanks so much!!! :)

I've heard rumors about receptions taking place at some point. Does anyone have the dates or know when to register (especially for NYC)? All I've received so far is my acceptance letter.

Sorry, just found this thread - you're an alum I gather? Do you know who else will be at the NYC reception? I've tried to search through the various emails I've gotten about it and all I can find is "current students, alumni, and Georgetown administrators"...

If I don't have any specific questions, do you think it still makes sense to go? I'm trying to make the on-campus ASW, or at least to visit at some point if not. It seems like that will be more valuable to my decision-making process. I'm not a big schmoozer... But I also feel bad about not going somehow. Dean Cornblatt is so nice in his emails.

I would go. These things give you a sense of the types of grads that come out of these schools (and not to mention what the inside of a huge law firm looks like). Also, the food and drink is almost invariably good.

Applying ED should not theoretically affect the amount of need based money you get, but ED will likely limit you to no or very little merit based money. If you're accepted ED there is no incentive for the school to give you merit money because you have to go there.

Ok this may seem likeba weird question but how do things work at these receptions? I know a few speeches are given and after that everyoje just gathers and eats or whatever. But its an opportunity to get to know people and ask questions to alums etc. So do people just walk up to random people and introduce themselves and start talking? Lol

Yes. You drink and shake hands with people. It's fun, and really not that complicated.

I'm a 2L. The only thing I'm an alum of is my undergrad institution of yore. (I spoke to their pre-law society on monday and someone asked me if CUNY Law was a good option for them. Just... no.)

How this works (I went to the NY one two years ago before I accepted):
You mingle for a while, you spend some time trying to place everyone. There will be some alums and some current students. You will eat nice finger foods and drink wine and beer. Andy will give a speech and someone else will give a speech. You will mingle some more. It's fun. I met some future section mates.

I do encourage anyone who feels like it to come talk to me. The best way to figure out who I am is probably to come up to all the current female students and ask if they are Volsi.

And yeah, you should go. It's fun. Get free stuff when you can.

I know when it comes to skirts/dresses, formal dress code generally means it must be knee length but since no dress code is specified here would it be out of place to wear a shorter one? Im not sure how formal this thing is, really ..

The ask a law student threads for GULC seemed to be kind of dead, so I was wondering if Volsi/hipster or any other current students could answer my question. I was wondering if you, or anyone you knew, chose GULC over higher ranked schools, specifically NYU, Penn, or Mich, and why you chose it, and if you are happy with the choice. TLS tends to be kind of anti-GULC, but when I visited I made a pretty strong emotional connection and really loved it. I just don't know if that connection really outweighs the better job prospects coming out of NYU.

I chose GULC over Michigan and I know some other students who chose GULC over Penn or NYU. Feel free to PM me for more specifics, but in short i loved GULC from the moment I stepped on campus and I wanted to go to school in DC. I'm very happy with my decision and I would make it all over again if i could!
