Am I screwed?

Post by Bubbles1012 » Wed Jun 08, 2016 5:25 pm

I just finished my 1L year at Tulane. I have been in the New Orleans area for nearly ten years, also did my undergrad at Tulane, and wouldn't mind staying in the area if I got a decent job but lately have been thinking I would like to go to a larger market with higher salaries. My current rank is 25.2%, #47 out of 186. GPA 3.601. I am kind of flabbergasted as I finished with a 3.901 my first semester and thought I was just as prepared for exams.

I had big law hopes but now it seems like I am likely out of the running. Am I screwed? Do I have any chance of getting a NY or Houston summer associate position? Am I boxed out of even a decent law firm in NOLA that pays in the 70 to 80k range? Any advice from anyone out there on how to maximize my employment outlook? I have nearly a full scholarship so I don't necessarily NEED big law to pay loans but I also like money (being honest here).

I'm not qualified to answer your question, but I am curious to know what your work plans for this summer have been or will continue to be?

Do you have any chance? Sure. But your chances aren't good at getting a NY or Houston SA. Hustle and network this summer and you should be able to get a solid job in Louisiana.
