Negotiating more scholly with transfer acceptances
Wondering if anyone has any experience or is willing to share any anecdotes about using T14 transfer acceptances to negotiate for more scholarship money after their 1L year. Finished my first year at a TT in the top 5 with a half scholly. Considering throwing apps at CLS, NYU, and UVA for leverage. Any info would be appreciated.

My understanding is that it can be pretty hit or miss. Likely you got a scholarship because you were above the mean in LSAT, UGPA or both. They offered you money to try to boost the numbers that USNWR cares about. At this point, you don't really have anything tangible to offer. If they increase your scholarship they lose revenue and if you transfer out they lose revenue. You are statistically likely to pass the bar on the first try, but so are most of the people that are above median. Still, worth a try.

Some schools will still throw money at people who threaten to transfer. Your employment outcome still matters to the school for their statistics and assuming you do well, there is value in having successful alumni. But not all schools do this and some don't offer much. You might as well apply since even if you don't get a bigger scholarship, you might want to transfer. The three application fees will cost a negligible amount of money, so go ahead and apply and then decide what to do later if you're accepted.
