Pass/Fail and the Curve
I just wanted to clarify... If a lot of students are taking a class pass/fail, that makes the curve more difficult for students taking it for a grade, right?

Yeah since there are less students in the "pool" for the curve grading system.SemiReverseSplinter wrote:I just wanted to clarify... If a lot of students are taking a class pass/fail, that makes the curve more difficult for students taking it for a grade, right?

Re: Pass/Fail and the Curve
At least at my school, someone taking the class P/F still gets a grade for their exam - it just doesn't show up as a grade on their transcript. Conversely, classes that are heavily P/F'd (i.e, evidence) are actually easier because the P/F people put in zero work and kind of just crawl around on the exam.

I don't think this is the case everywhere (and I'm certain it isn't at UT, or wasn't anyway).carmensandiego wrote:Yeah since there are less students in the "pool" for the curve grading system.SemiReverseSplinter wrote:I just wanted to clarify... Re: Pass/Fail and the Curve
In the one class I took P/F the prof said he was allowed to use a more generous curve for the people who took it for a grade.
