Visiting student 3L year... advice?
Hi TLS, I'm currently a 2L at a T1 school with slightly above median grades. I'm getting married my 2L summer, and because I want to be in the same place as my future husband, I've decided to become a visiting student my 3L year. Luckily, I also want to work in the same market and have a job lined up for next summer there. What is the visiting student application process like? Ideally, I'd like to try for a higher ranked school, but it doesn't really matter. I'm considering applying to a T4 school (because it'd be cheap), a school that's of a comparable rank to where I am now, and a T14 school. I'm aware I won't receive a degree from the school at which I'm visiting-- just wanted to know what my expectations should be like. Also, would going to a considerably lower ranked school (for cost reasons) hurt me? Thanks!

Not too many law students do a third year visit. You might get more responses if you name the law schools which you are considering.

When this has come up here before, the consensus has been that you need a good reason to visit more than anything else, and that rank/grades are less important than in other applications (you're not counting for any medians, so as long as the visiting school can feel confident you won't fail out they're not too worried). Personal reasons are perfectly fine. Most of the people I know of who've done this seem to have gone to a similarly- or somewhat higher-ranked school

OP: Neither response has answered your question. Hard to offer an opinion without knowing the schools in question.

Considering NYU, Fordham, and CUNY. No debt so far, so 1 year is not a *huge* concern, but less is better.

CUNY is an interesting law school for a few reasons, but mostly for its rock-bottom tuition. If you have New York residency, then the cost is remarkably low.
Consider asking your summer law firm if they have an opinion on the matter.
