...you have to turn in briefs sometimes? i know law schools do some pretty asinine things, but that competes for the worst

They force you to turn in "breifs" at TTTs but at least you get grades back three days after exams

Re: How do you feel about law school?
Not a fan. I want to work and make money. being thrown back to a college environment of house parties and beer pong sucks after you got accustomed to living like an actual adult (going out to actually nice restaurants, or lounges and cocktail bars). Law readings mostly suck; classes are mostly pointless and rarely involve any real engagement or discussion (most students just pretty much count the passing of time). It also sucks that you are doing so much during the semester and only one 4 hour exam will determine all of your effort. The debt aspect is the worst though. It literally effects every shopping decision. It's also stressful to think about jobs and just reading the vale thread can be so fucking unnerving.

1) you're in manhattan, it's literally chocked full of nice restaurants, lounges and cocktail bars, there are many ways to socialize other than going to other law student's apartments. That's a choice! Sure, this is a fixture of fall 1L, but it's far from a necessary social outlet. Also what's wrong with beer-pong?TheoO wrote:Not a fan. 2) you're in the depth of your spring slump. everyone's over class right now I remember the feeling. Believe it or not, when you can actually chose which classes you want to take with which people the whole "class" thing gets a little better. Yea some part of class will always suck. Go to firm events and get drunk on someone else's tab. to forget about it.
3) debt sucks and that doesn't change but the longer you live with it the less you think about it. I remember getting very agitated about debt and my spending habits at times last year. I would encourage you to disconnect your daily minimal expenditures from the massive remote debt and you'll live happier. Go to brunch more, take day trips on Greyhound ($28 round trip to philly or AC). As long as you aren't careless with huge bar tabs in meatpacking, it'll roughly even out.
4) you won't be in the vale. you could get all non-honors grades and you still wouldn't be in the vale. stop reading TLS if it's stressing you out unnecessarily and let's have a drink.

Our property teacher is making us write a formal memo in addition to the two other papers we have this semester for her (one of which is due the monday after spring break). Definitely feeling the whole T13 thing.TheSpanishMain wrote:They force you to turn in "breifs" at TTTs but at least you get grades back three days after exams

Almost all the self-hatred revolved around "breifs" and other written work. I like it a lot more than undergrad because you can easily avoid classes like that and just worry about a 3-hour exam.

I like it.
Class the entire morning til lunch gets dry at times (Con Law ugh) but we have some amazing professors who are engaging and it's never that bad.
Then you have from lunch until bed to knock out an hour or two of reading, maybe make progress on a brief for whatever your Legal Writing course is (1L). At no other time in my life do I imagine I'll get to lounge for a bit, play basketball for a couple hours, and hang out with friends and my significant other without a ton of stress.
Plus we got to do oral arguments recently, and it was awesome. Can't wait to do it again next quarter. As the thing that was the most work, I'm pretty excited at how much fun it was. Some classmates (really) suck. Most of them are awesome. There are some great people with really similar interests as mine, the parties are solid, and I think I've met some people who I'll stay friends with for the rest of my life.
So I definitely like it.

Since there seems to be a wide variance in opinion about this, would you mind expanding on this for ignorant but curious 0Ls like me?BizBro wrote:Law school pretty much sucks and I wish i never came. Would have gone to biz school if I could go back in time.

I honestly like law school and I like my job. Its everything else about the profession that makes me regret my decision.

I love law school. It's the most interested I have been in school. All the people at my school are really great. Yes, there's work, but it's doable.

my favorite part of law school is client-based extracurricular. people are cool, classes are fine, but cabin fever is setting in.

Besides the 10% of the time that I want to drink bleach or walk in front of a bus it's ok I guess

In the midst of the breif talk, I think this went unnoticed but this is exactly how I feel.fkt18 wrote:I alternate between loving law school and actively hating my life. I think I'll go back to loving it once I have a job lined up though.

After the first semester, it becomes like an extension of undergrad to an extent. There's just more responsibility work wise but nothing unreasonable.

Is there supposed to be a bit of a second semester slump?

Bizbro, if you get a job, 2L and 3L are dramatically better than 1L.
Scotty, a substantial portion of my section went through a second semester slump around this time, give or take a few weeks.

Re: How do you feel about law school?
It's hard for me to overstate how much better 2L has been than 1L for me. There's definitely a lot to be said for choosing your own classes and setting your own schedule. I'm not sure how many reading this thread have been in the military, but it's a lot like going from basic combat training (where every waking second of your day is regimented and controlled) to advanced individual training (where only about half of your time is regimented and controlled). If I had my druthers I'd be out of here and working already, but in comparison to last year, it's like heaven.

I'd imagine there is some response bias here. I wouldn't be surprised if TLS users have a more positive outlook on law school than the general population.Brut wrote:koalacity wrote:Pretty surprised by these poll results.
