Re: T10 1L...About to Fail a Doctrinal Class, Please Help!!!
How does the dean know you'd be luck to get an F? You just took the exam. It's likely that no one has even taken a look at it yet.

Sometimes you're allowed to bring your grade up to a non-failing grade but you're screwed anyway. what did u write on the exam? 1 paragraph per question?

This has to be a flame. You knew the material cold, wrote nothing, and are now facing an F? WTF happened? You get a B- just for making an effort. If you froze and had nothing to write you should've just started pounding out nonsense and making it look like you tried.
What did you write? How little did you write?

You studied for 6 weeks and couldn't get anything onto the page? I've gotta believe that studying for 6 weeks would yield a passing exam grade for a 1L class. I think you might be freaking out a little too soon. If the exam was really hard the curve will straighten everyone out. I would just chill until grades come out. I feel like most people have no idea WTF is going on in most of their classes until the last 3 weeks anyway.

You can try speaking to the professor, since he decides your grade. It seems like the Dean isn't going to give you much help. After that, sorry to say, but you're probably out of options. You're at a T10 though. Just turn it around next semester, unless you're paying sticker. In which case, re-assess.Desperado wrote:Not a flame, just genuinely struggled on the exam and got too flustered to realize I should have just started writing nonsense. I know how badly I messed up and if I could change what happened, I obviously would. So now that it has happened is there anything at all i can do about it? Is there anyone else I should speak to?
EDIT: Saw that you wrote dean of students, and not "the" dean. I guess you could always go up the chain of command until you get what you want, but I would speak to prof first and then wait and see. If you do decide to start going up the ladder, don't expect to be very popular for the next 2 1/2 years.

Nieve 1L question, but are you allowed to speak with the professor under these circumstances if it was anonymous grading? Would that be a violation of the honor code?

I'd like to hear more details as to what you did on the final. To elicit that kind of reaction from the Dean you must have royally screwed the pooch.

Your professor probably has to fill out paperwork to give you an F. There's no way he cares enough to do that. B minus.

It's a flame because no professor would have even scantron tests graded and submitted before New Year.

I've heard at top schools you get the discretionary B- just for filling out an answer.

C is pretty much F at most t14s. But I think, at least at my T14, about half of the 1L profs would give out roughly 1 or 2 Cs per class (classes of like 80)
I also remember seeing a few Fs in the grade distributions that we had access to. Never knew anyone who got one though, no idea how they managed to do that, and only select few professors gave them

Seems unrealistic he'd say that to you during exams. Too mean and weird to be real.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
