Anyone else hate Contracts?
Not that I'm terrible at it but I wish I could just do Crim and Torts all day. I hate contracts and how everything always comes down to a dollar sign. Considering only the top 10 percent of the class are getting biglaw, it really shouldn't exist at my school. Stupid class...... Sorry TLS it's been a rough go as of late and I just needed to vent.

Are you saying that familiarity with contract law is exclusively necessary for biglaw?Young Marino wrote:...Considering only the top 10 percent of the class are getting biglaw...

Not saying that but a biglaw associate would certainly apply those principles more on a daily basis than say a PDor ADAcheckers wrote:Are you saying that familiarity with contract law is exclusively necessary for biglaw?Young Marino wrote:...Considering only the top 10 percent of the class are getting biglaw...

contracts will get clearer once you understand how to put it all together. It's not like torts or crim where u can learn one tort/crime at a time. It's all moving pieces that u can't fully understand when you've only learned consideration or something.

eventually you'll realize that common law (torts, contracts, property) should be in one class. then it will all make sense.

How you do on the test has nothing to do with how much you like the class or material. In all likelihood, contracts is bad because your professor is bad. In any business dealing, there are billions of things that could go wrong. The professors can pick funny/interesting cases if they want to.

This is also true. Contracts was actually my favorite class, but it was because the prof picked funny/weird cases to balance out any dry material, and it was fun to watch the prof go after gunners. He'd also drop at least one sexual innuendo in class per week.AReasonableMan wrote:How you do on the test has nothing to do with how much you like the class or material. Actually not a bad idea. I would let students take Crim in 2L/3L.Nekrowizard wrote:So by your logic, they might as well drop crim at Columbia.

I loved Contracts, but then again, I also ended up really liking CivPro so I tend to like the more technical classes. Contracts is great because it starts to make sense once you understand how all the parts fit together to create a unified whole system.
It doesn't really come down to the dollar sign, though, so I think you are either in Contracts I, or really missing the point of the system, because that's a very simplified way of seeing things.

civpro > contracts > crim > torts
probably this is because there are increasing amounts of "hide the ball" "ohh im teaching *legal thinking*" tomfoolery going on as you move to the right on the above line. probably very professor based though.

my contracts class doesn't even allow an open book exam, all we can use is an unannotated copy of selections from restatements and UCC. Contracts is my favorite class though.

We get to annotate ours but I don't see too much of a difference.itachiuchiha wrote:my contracts class doesn't even allow an open book exam, all we can use is an unannotated copy of selections from restatements and UCC. Contracts is my favorite class though.

My professor is a cool guys but he jumps around from topic to topic. It's like one minute we're talking about Promissory Estoppel the next we're on the Mailbox Rule out of no where. Makes it unnecessarily confusing IMO

This. I had the same experience with Contracts my 1L year, and was completely baffled by the subject until the end of October when all of the abstract principles from the beginning of the semester began to link with one another. PM me if you would like to see my contracts checklist for Contracts I. I would be happy to share.cusenation wrote:contracts will get clearer once you understand how to put it all together.
