Hey all.

First of all I want to say thanks for all the advice, it has been very helpful to read everyones opinions on techniques for success.

I just wanted to make a point about an observation that I didn't expect to see:

EVERYONE is so caught up on how many cases they've read, how far ahead they are in the reading. For all the gunner braggarts, I have not heard one brag about reviewing notes, outlines, E&E's. Everyone is so caught up in the syllabus. Luckily, after reading much on TLS, I realize this cannot simply be my only focus, thanks all.

Yeah, I never got the reading ahead. By the time class comes around, you've forgotten it all anyway.

I mean, you're going to forget it by exam time, too, and that is literally infinitely more important than whether you remember it for class, because doesn't really matter what you remember for class. I don't think reading ahead will help grade-wise but it's nice to get it all done Sunday and just not have to worry about it the rest of the week, if you're the kind of person who likes to get shit out of the way.

Yes I find it much more important to make sure I'm properly grasping the material we've gone over in previous classes, making it easier to memorize/apply for the final.

I also find that "preparing for the final" from day one seems to be the best kept secret. Very strange to me. Maybe people rather keep this info to themselves.

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT read ahead more than one week. This is a complete waste of time. Peers of mine that did this absolutely flustered both in class and on the exam. Work ahead by learning black letter and applying that through practice exams. Stay on key with your professor is talking about each class, and don't try to "wow" anyone by how many class sessions ahead you are.

I was always 1-2 weeks ahead in all my class readings. It worked for me, but everyone is different. I used the time during the last 2-3 weeks of class to fine tune my outlines and complete a bunch of practice exams. I'm done with LS (thankfully) -- ended up in the top 10 in my class. Reading ahead is not the right thing for everyone though and I always reviewed my notes prior to class so I could get through cold calls. Sometimes I probably flubbed the in class Q&A, but that doesn't matter w/r/t grades. As with all LS advice, find what works for you and do that. No need to share with others what you are and are not doing.
