How to address a prof who is also dean?
This may be stupid and obvious, but how do I address a faculty member who holds the title of Professor and Associate Dean?
I'm assuming in class, use Professor. Everywhere else, use Dean?

When in doubt, go with the highest appropriate honorific.
One prof I have is a retired judge and I prefer to use Judge for him because (a) I believe it's more respectful than professor and (b) Judge is the appropriate honorific for a retired judge, until they become another officeholder. (And (c) he was a judge in my home metropolitan area, so I'm used to news reports about Judge X doing this or that).

I chose Professor X on the poll since that sounds cooler than Dean X.

I had a professor who was also a dean. She referred to herself as Dean XXX sometimes, so that's what we called her. Let's not talk about the weirdness of her habit of talking in the third person. I think they like being regarded with their highest title... feeds the ego.

First name with an "o" added to the end. E.g., Paul becomes "Paulo."

He's a doctor, too, so apparently Prof trumps all.Flips88 wrote:Thank god Charles Xavier wasn't a pretentious and title seekingMal Reynolds wrote:I chose Professor X on the poll since that sounds cooler than Dean X.
