The people at my school were basically all chill, apart from a few outliers.

I don't think mine was bad overall. Most people were reasonably social, although still more nerdy than the general public. Which is totally fine, because nerds feel more comfortable around other nerds.

There was enough social drinking going on where if you didn't have any social skills to begin with, you eventually learned some by 3L.

It was way, way less awkward than the office I worked in before law school, that's for sure. Also, I fit in better with lawyer types, because I'm fairly critical, outspoken, and somewhat political. If you bring that stuff up in a business environment, people get uncomfortable. But most lawyers like discussing stuff like that a bit.

not bad; I think most of my classmates (rising 3L's) share the mindset of wanting to get in, do their routine, and then get the fuck out of there. there's a lot of politeness and small talk, but I think there's a mutual understanding that the law school is not a pleasure garden.

Honestly when I lurked the internet I heard so many horror stories I thought law school would be full of the most awkward and unattractive people alive. But the social makeup is more like the people you'd meet in any AP class in a suburban high school. Some super nerdy types and the occasional person with nerdier interests, but a good amount of well-balanced successful kids, some athletic types, etc. People say stupid shit in class sometimes because professors like to talk about the "real world" and a lot of people don't have a ton of non-school experience yet. But it's more about being sheltered and not realizing it yet than anything else.
