When to start mass mailing?

Post by 1l2016 » Sat May 31, 2014 9:18 pm

So, in addition to OCI, I want to mass mail a ton of firms. When is the best time to start doing this? I'm at a non-T14 with solid grades and I want to make sure I do all I can to get a SA. So does mass mailing apply only to non-OCI firms? I.e. If a certain firm is coming to OCI should I still mass mail before OCI, or is that generally not looked favorably upon?

Also, my school is not in the NYC area-not being at a T14, is it still worthwhile to mass mail NYC firms? Thanks!

mass mail any city you'd want to work in and even those you don't. getting a job is difficult.

mass mail late july before oci if a firm is coming and maybe early early august if not. your time right now is probably best spent networking with attorneys who might be able to forward your resume along in the coming months.

So still try and mass mail firms if they are coming to OCI?

massmail should start december 1st of your 1L year.
Absolutely massmail oci firms, but with the intent of making sure you're pre-select

December 1 seems wayyy too early, that's before the first semester of grades even come in. No one seems to do 2L SA decisions before July...Where are you coming up with that?

There are still some 1L SAs and they are a good way to get 2L SAs.

Start mass mailing ASAP. Mass mail NYC and any market you have ties to. If there are firms in your area, you should definitely contact their recruiting department and let them know that you're in the area for the summer and would be available to come in at their convenience. Also, if you're comfortable, you could also reach out to alums from your law school who work at the firms you're interested in. Good luck!

That too, but really I meant networking. Someone you massmail in december might let you have a 15 minute call in January, a lunch meeting in March, invite you to a networking event in May, and forward your resume to HR in July.
