I was top 50% at SMU after 1L. OCI was a total bust. Got some paid 2L summer stuff through other SMU programs, which was cool. Ended up alright (as did most, if not all, of my classmates) but it was pretty nerve-wracking for a while.

You'll get something, and O&G work isn't terribly hard to find in Texas, but whether it pays well or you're willing to endure the stress of quite possibly not having a job waiting for you when you graduate is up to you.

I checked out my schools OCI from last year... that looks rough as far as jobs are concerned. I have some friends in big law that might be able to suggest me for an interview to the hiring committee... but idk if that would help considering my GPA

If you're at SMU, PM me (or just say it here, I don't care either way). There's other stuff aside from OCI to consider.
