To Prosecute or not?
Whom here would jump at the chance to work in the prosecutor’s office if it paid what larger firms paid?

If the pay was better I feel that I would have given it a solid shot. A couple friends wanted to go that route, but again, the pay. One acquaintance was an intern and she loved it as did everyone in the office but the pay was mentioned as a downer. You’d think they’d have a bigger budget given all the expensive property they confiscate (yachts, drug money, etc.), but apparently (and unfortunately) it doesn’t work that way.
I could live with a salary that wasn’t at big firm level, but it’s just that, as is, it’s too low. Maybe if the system allowed associates to wipe out a bigger portion of tuition debt at a much faster pace, that could make it attractive.

Depending on the office, the salaries become much more livable after the first few years. Realistically, your chances at staying at BigLaw for more than a few years are low, whereas if you want you can stay at a prosecutor's office for your whole career.
If you are looking at US Attorney's Offices, the pay can be pretty close to what a first year associate makes. Of course the down side is these jobs are highly selective and usually require at least a few years in a firm.

Santa clara DA pays 90k starting. That's the closest you'd get at biglaw pay so early in your career as a prosecutor. Too bad no one gets a job as a prosecutor let alone a paid prosecutor position these days. Salary really is irrelevant because you have thousands trying to claw their way into the average 50k per year position.

I guess the friends I know who would prefer being a prosecutor isn’t an anomaly…. according to this poll.
BTW: I just checked the pay for San Fran, and the starting salary is right at 60… do not understand why it would be 90 just 30 miles south. Unless someone says otherwise, I thought the SF COL was ultra-expensive.
