peace corps before law schoool due to low gpa but high lsat

Post by ali14m » Tue May 06, 2014 10:47 am

hi everyone,
My gpa after all four years is a 3.45 and my lsat is a 173, I interned at an NGO in Africa, the Hague and at a local court house being a law clerk. I plan on doing the peace corps after college, however my question is will my background help me get into a good law school despite my low gpa?
thank you

No. 3.45 isn't all that bad though anyways.

Yeah, it might, just a little bit. It'd probably just tiebreak you vs. applicants with similar stats. But if your primary motivation for joining the PeaceCorps is a minor law school admissions boost, you won't last 27 months.

It certainly won't propel you straight to Harvard. Good luck.

Very much this. Go because you want to be a PCV for two years. Don't do it for the boost.

RPCV here at a top ten school. I was told by admin at my school that Peace Corps gives you a significant bump. However, I do have one piece of advice. After doing Peace Corps, seriously consider taking a year off before jumping into school. The adjustment back is way worse for most people in comparison with the initial adjustment to your new country. I also had a lot of health problems that were not detected at my close of service, so I went through 1L with continual bouts of sickness. Good luck with the next two years of your life! It will be worth it, no matter which law school you end up at.
