Con law hypo/analysis

Hey guys, so I'm preparing for my con law exam, and I'm about 95% certain our prof will ask us a question on the exam about same sex marriage. I'm trying to figure out how I would formulate my answer now. How would you go about analyzing a question, say, about SCOTUS determining whether bans on same-sex marriages are unconstitutional. Con law is the one class that seems the most hazy/convoluted to me.
