Sooo this just happened
I go to a CA accredited night law school, part time 4 year program......
Im in my 3rd year, 2nd semester.....
My registrar sent me an email that I owe $1400 that I had paid and actually owed $455........After email after email after email she still hadnt figured out that I had paid February '14's tuition........I go on my facebook and post that "shes the most incompetent human being ever on this planet"; Someone sends a screenshot of that to my Dean. Dean calls me in and tells me to wrote an apology letter and blah blah in which I did. The registrars mom is part of the board of my school. 2 weeks later I get mail at my house that my diploma is being deffered for 6 months because of what I did due to violating the honor code policy at my school which says you can't disparriage the school on facebook. I dont think I did this, and had a meeting with my dean and vice dean and showed them a case to overturn it, and they havent gotten back to me and its been 2 weeks already.... what else do u think i can do??? can i sue my school or get an injunction against them? pleaase lemme know. only problem is im in a private law school. please help me, thanks so much.

I would hire an attorney specializing in education law if I were you....it would be worth the money to get your diploma and get out of there.

it's probably more helpful for you to tell the school that you're prepared to put your story all over the internet to try to pressure them, rather than just doing it and losing a bargaining chippatogordo wrote:tips@abovethelaw.com

Damn, op, sounds like you got yourself a dilemma. Have you considered not talking about it on the internet to random strangers?

I have a hard time believing this. For one, as the above poster points out, you posted this on April 1. Second, it's hard to believe that your school makes it an honor code violation to disparage them on Facebook. Sorry. I don't buy it.
If this were real, it would be a great ATL story, though.

its true though. i guess they had added this to our honor code like 2 years ago, (the year after i started)........but anyways theyhave fb blocked at our school, so the only way that i couldve done it was off of school grounds, in which it was already...mr.hands wrote:I have a hard time believing this. Representing yourself in a suit against your school would allow you to practice the skills you've worked to prefect over your law school career. Further, it could serve as a resume booster. hth. Alternatively, you could advise prospective employers of this great case that you could immediately bring to the firm.

This thread could serve as a cautionary tale against choosing bottom-tier schools. You're not going to find a facebook clause in the honor code at any decent school.

Re: Sooo this just happened
I just wanted to point out, a 10% bar passing rate and the fact the dean owns 60% of the school should have been your first red flag. This is all indicative of the school's inability to create successful lawyers. When a school has an "honor code policy" that stipulates no negative FB posts, it's clear they have had serious problems with students calling them out on social media for being complete shit.
Just thought I'd point out the obvious.
For those considering CBE or T4 schools, read this thread carefully. I think it's very telling, outside of the OP's problem, which I do sympathize with.

Re: Sooo this just happened
but trust me, noone wants to go to a cbe school....its a joke. they give u ur schedule the first day as a 1l, and from 1-3l they change it and add mandatory classes so they make some extra money. this place is a joke and the state bar needs to be heard about this, but how can i voice my opinion against this stupid ass school? is the only way to get lawyers involved??
