UBE - best state to take it in?

Post by iShotFirst » Tue Apr 01, 2014 8:55 pm

Interested in taking the UBE in order to move to a western state in the next couple years-

is there any "best" state to take the exam in if I am not sure which one I will be moving to?

Any thoughts?

I think the best would be to take it in the state in which you are most likely to practice.
The exam is the same no matter where it is taken.

Fixed. Remember that C&F and CLE requirements likely differ by state.

all of the above, but if, hypothetically, you really didnt care, I would take it in the state that requires the lowest score. However, and please correct me if i am wrong, lets say you got a 270 in washington, which is enough to pass there, but, you needed a 275 to pass in Colorado, i do not believe you could practice there.

But this comes down to splitting hairs. What state are you thinking of going to?

You need to hit the cut score of whatever state you want to be licensed in. Taking it in a state with a lower cut score would just help in that you would be less likely to not pass in that state. So, if you take it in Washington (which requires a 270), you end up scoring a 273, then you cannot transfer it to Colorado (which requires 276).

I don't know what happens if you take it in Idaho (which required 280), but only score a 278. Could you then bring that score to any other UBE state?

For ube states the score is transferable. If I'm not mistaken, minnesota only requires a 260. Whatever score you get, you can transfer to be admitted as long as it meets the score required by that state. However, I also think that only a successful test is transferable. Thus, if you score a 260 in Colorado, you would fail and would not be able to transfer the score to minnesota.

Make sense?
