MPRE Question

Post by Blahblahlaw » Tue Mar 25, 2014 8:29 am

So, I'm a 3L, obviously in my last semester. I go to school in NY, but that's probably irrelevant. I'm planning to take the Bar in NJ and PA.

I'm registered for the MPRE for this weekend. But idiotically perhaps, I'm not prepared at all for it, as I've gotten busy with work and interviews this semester and studying for it just kind of fell by the wayside.

I have a few questions about this:

First, is it okay to just push it off until August? I know that this is less than ideal. But I also know that bar results won't come out until November for NJ and a similar time for PA. So, waiting on August MPRE results shouldn't hold up my bar application/admission, correct?

Second, should I just go take it this weekend without studying? I'm sure people have passed it without studying in the past, since you really only need a 75 on the test to pass.

I'd appreciate any insight. I used the search function to try to find an answer to this, but I couldn't find a really direct answer to my question.

Thanks everyone...

It's only Tuesday. You should be able to pass if you study a couple hours on Friday. It's not that hard.

Also, there's a thread like 6 threads down called "Upcoming MPRE - When To Start Studying?" Perhaps your search-fu needs some work.

Most people I know studied for like 2-4 hours total and passed easily. Study for like 2-4 hours and you'll pass if you're not dumb. Just get an outline from one of the prep companies and read it or watch the barbri video.

In that case, I'll take it -- haha.

Thanks!

i wouldn't even bother with the outline or videos. just read the model rules and find some practice tests.

I had the BarBri book. I watched the video (it's short) and filled in the outline like the trained monkey lawl skool has prepared me to be. I did 2.5 practice tests and passed. (All joking aside? Take a few practice tests. I know several people who blew off studying entirely and were back in line, clutching their sharpened pencils for the next seating.)
Take Friday off, study, take MPRE, win.
Oh and be prepared - you WILL walk out of there feeling as if you failed. Everyone does.

I studied for 3 hours and got a 105.

Just go over the old tests. The barbri lecture was a waste of time.

This. I will also add when you take the test( even though it seems a bit elementary): Make sure you pay attention to whether its a may/ shall, will he get in trouble, will he not question. Additionally, look to see if the question worded narrowly or speaking in broad terms. That will help you narrow down the potential correct answers. Also watch out for answers that misstate/ misapply the rule.
