Roommates: Yes or no?

What is your opinion on living with other law students? Did you find it stressful, or nice to have someone to share in your sorrows?

No, but if you do take a roommate, don't let it be a law student.

If you can find one that's quiet enough it can be fine. My roommate is quiet as a church-mouse. I don't even see the guy much (maybe I see him once a day if that?). He's a law student but we have very different schedules. But even when he's here he is hardly ever noisy. Plus he basically only eats out so I have the kitchen just about all to myself.

TCR is normally no roommate, but if you can find a good one you can save some cash.

Unfortunately, I've learned that lesson the hard way this year. I avoid my house at all costs. I essentially sleep there, and that's about it.

It all depends on the you and the person you choose to live with. I live with two other law students and one of them has become one of my closest friends at school.

I lived with a law student for 1L and it was great. Different strokes for different folks, but know that plenty of people live with their fellow law students during 1L. I'd be surprised if less than half of my class roomed with other law students 1L.

I share an apartment with another law student and I like it. I get to save some money and get an apartment that is better than I would otherwise be able to afford, especially since i'm in a high cost of living area. Also my roommate is a really cool person. I enjoy talking with him and bouncing ideas or thoughts off him, whether or not about law school. Granted, my roommate is not very noisy or anything and is respectful. I also have always had roommates for the most part, so maybe i'm just used to it.

Yes, I suppose it definitely depends. I lived with a non-law student my 1L year, and lived with a law student this year. My roommate has been wrapped up in a lot of the drama and catty behavior that seems to permeate through some law students, and that just adds a lot of extra stress, living in that environment. I'm thinking it might be time to move to a single...

No roommates (if you can afford it).

I went roommate-free for the first time when I started law school, and I think it's the single most important factor in my continuing sanity. It gets lonely sometimes but I am very much a home studier, and being able to dictate when it's quiet based on my schedule without worrying about anyone else is so awesome. Now I hope to never have roommates again until it's a significant other moving in.
