Transfer in or start over as a 1L
Looking for some feedback. I have been admitted to a few schools and waiting on others, but wanted to hear what others think.
I am a part-time 2L leaving a non-ABA (state accredited) and applied as a new student. Now, the question is, fight for the credits and reduce time in school, or walk in as a new 1L with extensive previous exposure?
Tuition is paid in full regardless so that is not an issue. Rather, wondering if I'd be better served by having a year at a new school starting over with classes I already took or if that would be a waste of my time.
I don't have a reason to rush school (salary, etc. is stable), but wondering if I may be handicapped by a new school's style vs. my previous schools. Also, while I can appreciate relearning information, I wonder if I'll want to bludgeon myself to death with torts again.
Thanks

I assume you are applying as a transfer student ABA schools?
If so, I do not think that any of them are allowed to accept credits from a non-ABA program count to degrees in their programs. As such I believe that you would need to do 1L over again.

I applied as a new student (not transfer) because most school's do not accept a state accredited school's credits (plus, new applicant seemed like an easier way to be admitted). Some of the ABA schools will accept state accredited credits (non-aba) and that's why I asked. If they wouldn't accept my credits this would be a mute point, but since they do and I have not asked, I wondered what others might do.haus wrote:I assume you are applying as a transfer student ABA schools?

nontrad, for schools that accept you, I suspect it might be worth asking, not much downside I can think of. If they say no, you are no worse of then you are had you not asked.

Some school's will not (stated in their school policy about transfer credits), but others may. I am going to ask and see what I can do. Like you said, the worst that can happen is they say no. The question still remains.....it is better to come into a new school/location having already taken the courses and retake (likely result in higher GPA, scholarship money, fellowships, etc.), or come in as a 2L with no GPA and no experience with that school/students/faculty?
I know you can slice it many ways. Looking for pros and cons like networking, etc. Thanks for the feedback guys/gals.
