Anyone here not going to their graduation?
3L and no job lined up, I don't even feel like going. Doesn't really help that my parents are asking whether they should come
Anyone else thinking about not going or decided to not go?

I wasn't going to go but mostly because im cheap and our cap and gown rental is $120 bucks. My family told me to suck it up and pay it.

Re: Anyone here not going to their graduation?
I'm going, none of my friends or family understand that it's bad not to have a job lined up, because none of them went to college never mind graduate school. So they wouldn't expect you to have a job before you even graduate. So they all still think it's awesome and I fully intend to drink enough wine that day so that I may adopt their positive view of my world.
Plus cap and gown rental is free at my school. So there's that.

I didn't want to go, but it's really not for you, it's for your family / significant other / friends...everyone who has supported you. I didn't have a job lined up either, so I get how you feel.
You should still go.
You should still go.

Re: Anyone here not going to their graduation?
30 years ago, I didn't give a shit, so I passed.
30 years later, I regret not going. Not for myself, but for my mother, for whom it was a big deal.
This feeling was validated 3 years ago when I attended my son's law school graduation, who by the way, didn't have a job at that time. My wife and I were very proud parents!
Unless you're estranged from your loved ones-walk for them. They helped raise you. They want to share in your accomplishments. Give them a break. And don't be selfish like I was 30 years ago.

Re: Anyone here not going to their graduation?
Well I'm not really sure why I even created this thread in the first place I guess. I always knew people did graduation for their parent's sake, but I'm not particularly keen myself on having to tell my parents it's okay for them to come when it's clear they'd rather avoid the awkwardness. Guess I came here to confirm that people do go reluctantly.

Re: Anyone here not going to their graduation?
I'm not going to walk because I don't really feel like I accomplished much. I'm a 3L at a TTT with no job lined up after graduation. The only reason why I made it this far is that I was either too naive or too scared to drop out after realizing I was not one of the top ten students in my class after the first semester. As long as you have a pulse and are eligible for federal student aid then you can graduate from law school.

I do not want to go. Always hated such events. But it is not about me, but the other people. That is why, unfortunately, I am going.

I unnecessarily shelled out a quarter million dollars for this degree when I could have gone elsewhere for free. You bet your ass I'm dragging my parents and SO to that graduation ceremony.

Re: Anyone here not going to their graduation?
I didn't have a job at graduation, and these sort of things are not my kinda deal. You know what? I regret not going. I miss the hell out of some of my classmates, and I fucked some of them over by not giving them a chance for closure to say goodbye. I really don't want to go to mine either. It seems so insignificant when you still have to pass the bar. My mom said I had to go and paid for the gown. Law school graduation is more like "parental achievement" day.

I am an anti-social asshole, so I never went to my HS, B.S., M.S., or J.D. graduation. Only graduation I went to was Officer Candidate School, but that was mandatory.

Yeah, Navy OCS graduation was mandatory but it was a fun occasion too because you knew 1) You had a job lined up whether you liked it or not and 2) you were LEAVING OCS.
I went to my law school graduation for my parents. Even twenty years ago, though, it was pretty much a waste of time and money.
I'd go. It will give you something to complain about in the future.
EDIT: But the real celebration should wait for swearing-in.

My friends and I got pretty drunk beforehand. That made it a whole lot of fun. That's always an option.
