Loan Deferral to get a Master's Forum

So, two years and $100,000 later, I HATE law. Hate it, hate it, hate it. I am passionate about a lot of things. Law is not one of them. I want to finish (may as well at this point) and go get a Masters / PhD in one of those things I am passionate about.

My question is, how would loan repayment work? No way the powers that be would allow me to delay repayment for another 3-5 years, right? So presumably I would need to work at SOMETHING to pay back the debt WHILE going to school? Apologies if this is the wrong board but it seemed like a sufficiently general "law school student" question to post here.

After what will amount to $175,000 in loans, another $25,000 doesn't bother me, lol. But I'm REALLY good at this other subject, and without studying the GRE has been a joke so far.

But I'm not sure you're right, good sir or madam. Couldn't someone abuse the system and stay in school forever, never repaying loans?

Does it matter if i graduate or just go ahead and drop out after 2L year? What if there is a year of no school?

After 6 months you have to start repaying. You could request a deferment if you qualify income wise. I would drop out now, no use wasting another year of tuition and time if you're sure.

Its not when you graduate, its when you are out of school for longer than 6 months regardless. It would pause when you start grad school in 2015. Remember you HAVE to keep up on payments, if you default you will not be eligible for any other loans.

None taken. Google "Tucker max on law school" for an accurate all-purpose quote, but for me personally, I think it was the idealism. I knew Harvey Specter wasn't a real thing, but my impression of being a lawyer was definitely less tedious, boring, and meaningless than seems to be the case. I've wanted to be a politician since i was a teenager, and law seemed like a good route to it. I absorbed politics and Polisci like a sponge - easy 4.0, nationals in moot
Court, etc. But it's not so much that after 2 years I suddenly realized I hated it. More of, I kept learning more about it, and hating my path and what my future looked like (Im about top thirs at a barely T50 if its relevant). And I have come to dvelop some real passions that I have even more recently realized do have some career options.
