Professional looking backpack
Any thoughts on what would be a good professional backpack for school?
I work during the day in a place that requires me to wear a suit. I go to school at night and I have been rocking a 35L jansport from highschool. I think its time I traded up.
I want something like the northface router (http://www.ebags.com/product/the-north- ... ter/237249) that has the good back support, and ideally is very water resistant and has at least two large pockets - but I'd like something that is a bit smaller (more like 35L instead of 42L) and that looks more professional.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

OP title is kind of an oxymoron

OP is also looking for tall midgets, forward laterals, and humble law professors.

the camo is a good look, and will help fend off gunners.

If you're looking for back support, I've had good luck with Samsonite. I got the larger version of this http://shop.samsonite.com/Samsonite-Tec ... rchSize=12 about ten years ago, and it's still able to take a lot of abuse.

It is tough to get a professional-type backpack (at least for legal industry standards). Tumi might have something that fits the bill.Crowing wrote:Get a messenger bag
Otherwise, messenger bags are probably a good way to go, unless you are very set on it being a backpack.

A mono-toned conservative looking backpack is fine. No one is seriously going to look down on or judge a law student for using a backpack.

Its for school. It doesn't need to be "professional"-looking. I used the same JanSport backpack I've used since high school. The thing has a ton of space, and is durable as hell. Wouldn't have considered using anything else.

Of course, I never tossed on the Jansport for an interview or anything. I eventually bought a small messenger bag, more of a laptop bag, which neatly holds a few folders, papers, accessories, etc. But is small and not cumbersome. Couldn't have been a school bag though since it wasn't big enough. Plus its a pretty nice bag and I take good care of it, whereas a backpack is meant for the day to day abuse of law school.sublime wrote:kaiser wrote:Its for school. I agree that OP should get a backpack, but a messenger bag is a good idea for when you have to dress up.
I hate the suit with a backpack look all around.

Not cheap, but they have very nice looking backpacks.
I have seen them in the store too, very nice.

I'm a big fan of Filson. A little bit pricey, but I've been rocking one of their wool field bags for five years now with no discernible wear and tear. I've also heard good things about their briefcases and other messenger bags. A few examples below, but you can usually find them for cheaper through other retailers:

How much stuff will I have to carry on average as a law student? Will a messenger bag not suffice? Are there lockers or anything else for quick storage?

You can have professional-looking backpacks. They should be dark and sleek. Here's one: http://www8.hp.com/ca/en/products/oas/p ... b=features

Depends on the school and your personal study habits. Most schools have lockers, but not all. At some schools you are assigned a locker and can also get a locker in the library if you wish. Generally, having your books in class is useful so many people either do their studying at school and leave their books in a locker or lug their books back and forth as needed.t-14orbust wrote:How much stuff will I have to carry on average as a law student? I survived with a messenger bag and was fine with it. Many of my classmates did as well.
Depending on the school you are attending (limited now, likely available everywhere in the fall) there are also options that can make your life a little easier as far as the carrying things around aspect goes.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
