Asking Profs to change structure of exam?

Post by Wearthewildthingsr » Sat Feb 22, 2014 11:32 pm

I suspect I can't but hell let's see if anyone had different experiences.

All my exams this semester are take home. I hate em and they're miserable. And also I do extremely well under time pressure relative to my peers. Does anyone have experience of a professor changing his/her exam structure through either asking the Dean's office, registrar or the prof themselves?

That's not going to happen.

I haven't had a take home exam yet thankfully but I imagine 1 would suck let alone all of them that way.

Why would a take home exam be worse?

24 hour exam seems like it would suck. 8 hours suck enough as is but I'm not sure that they are worse than 3 hours. Neither are particularly pleasant.

I think one reason is that they usually have word limits so the curves are generally a lot tighter.

OP is good at word vomit horse races. Take homes don't play to their advantage.

Maybe a petition signed by (almost) everyone in the class would change his or her mind.

I kind of prefer take home exams, especially when they have word limits.

It's never going to happen. In one of my classes last semester, we were unanimous in wanting to change the exam and the professor was on board as well and the administration struck us down.

The admin doesn't write the exams but once something is in the schedule [like take-home v. in class] then nothing can change it. Especially since they don't want to change the format of exam times, dates, schedules of rooms, etc.
