Wait until your spring semester grades are in. It's a marathon, until OCI. Then it's a slaughter.

I think the shitty horse cutoff is 1.5 Bs. Srsly though, it depends what your other grades are.

And where those grades put you in relation to your class, since B's are something to celebrate at Barry.wiz wrote:I think the shitty horse cutoff is 1.5 Bs. Srsly though, it depends what your other grades are.

Don't stress over one grade. Plenty of people I know didn't do well over three grades 1L fall, beasted 1L spring and ended up with multiple V10 offers.

The exam I thought I did the best on turned out to be my worst grade by far

I barely made Stone in 1L and ended up V5. One B and the others were mostly B+s. You're fine, so far.

Try to relax. It's only one grade. Even if you got straight Bs, which you probably didn't, there's always this semester to kill it. And even if you don't, grades aren't sufficient or necessary to do well at OCI from CCN, as long as doing well means getting some biglaw job and you're not V5 or bust.
In short, you're a long, long way from Bonesville.

Last year over 72% of CLS grads landed in either biglaw or federal clerkship according to LST. I'm sure there were were also quite a few people who voluntarily went the PI route as well, meaning that number could have potentially been even a bit higher had they been gunning for biglaw. In short, I think you're probably going to do just fine. Best of luck with the remaining grades.

This is why 1 grade at a time is such torture.

Give or take 85% of CLS grads get a 2L SA thru EIP that choose to participate. Same for Chicago. This, minus the % no-offers that year, is the best indicator of chances at biglaw.Canof09 wrote:Florence Night wrote:Try to relax. It's only one grade. Its always worth noting that this figure includes the transfer class, who almost all have top 5% grades from prior LS and tend to do well. Thus, its not quite as pretty as a CLS 1L, but still pretty solid.

What I've always been interested in is what the deal is with those other 15%, roughly speaking, that strike out at EIP. Is it a) solely grades based, b) horrible interviewing, regardless or grades, or c) do you have to have both sub-median grades and bad interviewing skills in order to really strike out?jbagelboy wrote:

Basically, in order to sleep at night, I would like to speak to all of them personally and see their transcripts, resumes, and video tapes of their EIP interviews to analyze precisely what went wrong.
OP: you're not boned; this is one grade out of 7. I assume lots of people have at least one B on their transcript going into EIP. Try to keep your head up.

No and no. Certain classes will have more effect, however. Probably want to focus on a job before a clerkship though.FredJones wrote:Is a B a killer for A3 clerkships? 2 Bs? Cart before horse, I know, but I may have a shitty horse.

Re: 1 grade back. How "B"oned am I?
Exact same situation as OP.
Now I'm terrified.
I worked my ass off last semester. I read supps, outlined throughout the semester, followed Arrow and Xeoh's guide, finished reading by Halloween. Studied 6-7 hours a day early in the semester.
I took PTs as early as possible (before my classmates). Also LSAT is >75th percentile.
It worries me since I thought the lowest grade I could get was an A-, despite doing poorly in this exam.
Now I'm worried about my other classes.
How common or uncommon is it to get a random low grade for no reason (doing the same amount of work for all classes but getting one bad grade)?
I know the answer is "wait for other grades" but considering I did the same thing for all my classes, it doesn't look good (I did somewhat "adapt" and mold my studying based on the class and professor though).

Bs are legit not prestigious. So, you have that going against you.

It's not a random low grade. You just didn't do something (or a lot of stuff) right.

This isn't what you want to here, but grades tend to be somewhat consistent. You normally have the people who get all A-s and As, the ones who get all B's and B-'s, the majority who range from a B to an A- throughout and the outliers who can get an A or a B on a given day.iliketurtles123 wrote:Exact same situation as OP.

It's more likely to be an outlier if the format was different. Generally, the first class has the hardest curve because everyone knows it so well. The fourth class is easy to burnout on so those also may have a discrepancy. The truth is the only thing you learn moving forward is what is actually important to focus on, and you realize all the stressing out does nothing but make you think more stupider.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
