because the bar exam is like a law school final on steroids, times 20 subjects, unmercifully shoved down your throat over 2 days for 8 hours each day...

and because profs want the next generation to suffer like they did

Finals should be a one-on-one session with your professor wherein she grills you for three hours about the course. She gives a couple writing assignments, asks you various questions, and analyzes your ability as a potential lawyer.

That would be ridiculously subjective. I understand that life can often be subjective, but you can't build a curriculum, much less a system of education, around that kind of shit.

Finals should be kept at is for 1L. For 2L you should get 2 options to retroactively change your grade to "credit" (i.e., credit/no credit). 3L year should be graded entirely on a credit/no credit basis.

So what if it's subjective, it's still better than what we have now. The only redeeming quality about the current system is that it does spread out the class by work ethic rather nicely. But really it's only testing people who commit to playing the game. I know lots of students who just put in enough to get by because the system is so dumb. I mean seriously, memorizing details about inter-jurisdictional "majority rules" that everyone is going to forget in three weeks...

I posted this on Reddit earlier in response to a law student asking about finals stress, but just to put something serious ITT:

Second week of finals is about to start. I have my next, and last, exam (income tax) on Tuesday afternoon. I'm vacillating between feeling that I know tax law and feeling that I'm going to get ravaged by the curve.

I haven't been sleeping or eating enough, I've been consuming far too much caffeine, but things could be worse. I keep reminding myself that there are billions of people who would love to take my place should they be given the opportunity and that the fact that I'm taking these exams is a privilege, not a plight. I see a lot of 1Ls who seem to have forgotten that they're at one of the best law schools in the nation and receiving an education that will lead many of them to biglaw. Perspective, my friends, perspective. Things could be far worse.

Often when I want to complain, I consider that the vast majority of my friends do not have an AA even and are stuck working in shit, dead end jobs, while I get to go to a cushy private university for cheap just to study and learn shit, while not even having to work.

I have seen some shit in my life, LS doesn't even scratch the surface, it will be fine, even if it's not.
