Tell your friend you're not a lawyer and can't give legal advice.

It's your career. Do whatever you want. Better to ask a bar examiner how they feel about unlicensed lawyers giving legal advice. They're likely to find the fact that you merely relayed advice if a professor irrelevant.

We've all been there and it's nice to help out friends, but its not responsible or worth risking your career.

To consult a licensed and experienced criminal defense attorney to explore his options. You don't know shit and it would be egregiously irresponsible to even attempt to try and give legal advice to him. Not to mention a violation of the professional rules.redsox550 wrote:What do I tell my friend?

Isn't it just a fine? Most people mail in a check with their payment. It is like a parking ticket as far as I know.
If he really needs advice or a lawyer call the association of the bar of the city of New York referral line.
There is a reason people aren't supposed to ride bikes on sidewalks.
