1Ls - How Many Hours a Week?
Just curious as to how many hours my fellow 1Ls are putting in a week. Past students feel free to provide how many hours you worked and how it helped you!

Re: 1Ls - How Many Hours a Week?
So far it has varied quite a bit from week to week. I'm not doing some magic study plan. I just study until I understand the material. Sometimes that means getting to school a couple hours before class and leaving late, and sometimes that means leaving at noon when my classes are done. I try to go over my notes at the end of each week and think about how the concepts connect with each other and condense them into my (early) outline. Other than that, not much on the weekends. I don't really know the range on average hours I put in (sorry because I know that's what you're looking for), but I don't think that's necessarily important since people learn at their own pace.

What use could other people's numbers possibly be to you?

Best advice I got 1L was not to worry about what other people were doing and to focus only on what I needed to do for myself. Other people's study habits are probably not going to help you figure out what you need to do.LazinessPerSe wrote:What use could other people's numbers possibly be to you?

usually about 4-5 hours of class and then 2-3 hours of reading.swimmer11 wrote:Just curious as to how many hours my fellow 1Ls are putting in a week. Past students feel free to provide how many hours you worked and how it helped you!

Yeah, some people will scare you with their study time. I know one girl who spends about 12 hours a day at the school (this is a 'TTT', by the way. Not even T50), just studying.
Does she know the material better than me? I don't know, to be honest with you. I spend about 10-11 hours a day at school, eight of it actually involved in studying and class (other part is lunch, socialization and gym time).
I know some people that just do their stuff at class, and then go home and study. Everyone is different. Just know the material, that's what's important. If the professor is coming up with things from the reading that you didn't get or don't understand (happened to me recently), just go back and reread and make sure you understand why that happened and what you missed.

It all depends on the class, the professor and how well/ easily you grasp the concepts. its nto about time and effort, its about how well you know it and can articulate your knowledge and while applying it to a specific fact pattern, and in severe time constraints.
I just planned and tried to do my work from 8 am until 5 pm m-F, but I made sure to separate school from home. Some days, i had to work later, some days i got home earlier. When I had a writing assignment, I gave up the weekend days to work on it- butwhen I didnt, I just relaxed. Dont waste time thinking/ wondering what others are doing- everyone learns differently
