Biglaw DA rotations

I know a lot of firms have relationships with different PI place like local DA offices. I was wondering if anyone knew more about how this typically operates and how much it changes based on firm?

Is it only for junior/midlevel/senior associates? Is it only available if you've been there from summer on or do laterals have an option too? Are you paid by the firm for the rotation or does the DA office pay part/firm pays part? Is it competitive to get these opportunities?

If anyone has any idea or anecdotal experience I would love to hear.
