2012-2013 Schedules
Just trying to get a feel for how this works at other schools. Do most of you already know what classes will be offered next year, and at what times? When do you find out for sure what your class schedule for the Fall will be?
My school said the list of 2012-2013 courses and times would be sent out in April, but it's still not out yet. Although we rank our selections for the course lottery in June, we don't find out our own schedules until mid-August. Last year, they secretly changed the times of a few classes after we had already submitted our rankings, which kind of screwed everything up for me. (A few of my top choices ended up conflicting, which threw off the rest of the list and left me scrambling for credits in September.)
I sometimes wonder if all registrar's offices are this incompetent, or if we're unique.

A course lottery sounds like pretty much the worst idea for registration ever.

^ When you don't get into a class that you ranked for the lottery, you're put on a waitlist. The first week of the semester is the add/drop period. You attend all the classes you'd like to get into, and hope enough people drop that you get in. You can also add courses that aren't full, and drop ones you're not interested in.
Glad I'm not the only one who's bothered by this.piccolittle wrote:Haha wow, I was going to post that we were having the same problem at my school... but you go to my school!

Still no word on what classes will be offered next year. Do most students at other schools already know?

We don't register until around July for 2L classes. That being said you can probably look at archived class schedules for last Fall to get an idea of course offerings. Also, the student services offices tend to have printed copies of course descriptions and requirements available before anyone talks to you about it/sends it via email.Series70 wrote:Still no word on what classes will be offered next year.
