Class gift is a factor in USNWR rankings?
People are saying that the % of participation in our 3L/LLM class gift influences the USNWR rankings. In true law school spirit, that obviously means that even disinterested actors should game the rankings by giving $1.
But I'm trying to find support for this statement and all I can find are other law school websites proclaiming the same. The USNWR methodology doesn't saying anything about taking into account alumni or student giving.
Can anyone provide a third-party source to back up this claim? I'm really interested.

I know it matters for undergrad, but I don't think it matters for law school as US News doesn't indicate that that is something that they consider.

Yeah it seems to be a common theme among law schools though.Aberzombie1892 wrote:I know it matters for undergrad, but I don't think it matters for law school as US News doesn't indicate that that is something that they consider.

Maybe you're right. I remember when at went to gradfest for the entire university, school representatives mentioned giving at least $1 to help with rankings. However, I don't think they were separating grad/professional school students from the general population, and so I assumed that they were just counting all of the donations for undergrad.timbs4339 wrote:Yeah it seems to be a common theme among law schools though.Aberzombie1892 wrote:I know it matters for undergrad, but I don't think it matters for law school as US News doesn't indicate that that is something that they consider.

Seems wrong to me, unless the idea is that greater class giving will lead to greater future expenditures per student by the school, which is a factor in the USNWR rankings. If so, that's a pretty tenuous argument if you ask me.

I'm actually thinking someone heard that USNWR counted it for undergrad and assumed the rankings worked the same way for law school. Then people thought it would be a good way to entice others to give who may not otherwise want to. I'm all for gaming the rankings but I'd like to be sure we're actually gaming the rankings instead of just helping the grad committee say they got more students to donate.Aberzombie1892 wrote:Maybe you're right. I heard this is why Harvard dropped to 3. The Stanford people had a big push for everyone to donate a cent.timbs4339 wrote:People are saying that the % of participation in our 3L/LLM class gift influences the USNWR rankings.
