What Drives You?
The money? The power? The masochistic self-loathing? The lack of anything else better to do with your liberal arts degree?
Genuinely curious.

Re: What Drives You?
A raging insecurity complex and desire to rub whatever success I achieve in the faces of all those who tried to bring me down. Compliments, while appreciated, do nothing for me. But an insult? That will light a fire that burns for a long time. So essentially, I am driven by all the pent up negative energy imaginable.

Yeah, probably not too healthy. But I guess it sort of works. Better to have a poor source of motivation than no source of motivation.dailygrind wrote:Sounds healthy, friend.

The easiest way to explain chronic overachievers is compensation for some other shortcoming.
Why would you subject yourself to this hell if you're happy with how you are?
Besides, penis enlargement surgery is cheaper.

Ever since I saw American Psycho, and subsequently read the book, I've been looking to get into a field where I could obsessively fret over the weight and font of someone's business card.

A big thing for me is that law firms have a very delineated hierarchy you can climb, and you largely know how to get there and how long it will take. That wasn't the case in my prior career.

I heard a rumor that some people want to be lawyers because they are genuinely interested in it as an intellectual pursuit, and see it as a gateway for doing important work, whether that be as a powerful lawyer, a politician, or as an academic.

Unfortunately that quote comes from a guy who was thought of as anything but mediocre by those who knew him, and he subsequently gave up that recognition for 1. fame and 2. money.laxbrah420 wrote:Yea my only fear is mediocrity. Fuck fame fuck money. Fuck everything anybody can take
