how much time did you sink into your appellant brief
i got about 25 classmates in my class. teacher gives 1 A and 2 A- i think.
i've sunk a solid 24 hours (3 days) of research and writing.
someone just told me they've worked on it for weeks.
it is due monday. i'm not stressing but how much time did you put into your brief

They probably weren't putting 8 hours a day into the appellate brief for weeks.
Everyone writes differently, so necessary time for a good product differs widely between people. LRW grades are also often largely subjective, especially when distinguishing between an A- paper and a B+ paper.
Stop worrying about what your classmates are doing and just do your best, which it sounds like you are doing.

Sadly, much longer than that. And it is pass/fail. I spent a long time on it because I didn't understand what I was supposed to be writing about.. at all.

Week and a half, 3-8 hours a day. And I still only expect to score median because after submission I realized I messed up nearly a third of my cites. Ugh.

Amount of work ≠ quality of work.
I know there are plenty of people in my section that sink way more time than is necessary on research. They spend hours upon hours looking for the perfect case that isn't out there. They pore over secondary sources and stuff that aren't helpful.

this is how i feel. and mine is not pass/fail. i figure i will grind 10 hours to finish all the writing today and save a full day tomorrow to do all that technical bullshit. i read/outlined a head for mundays so i hope it'll be alright. so sad.ilovesf wrote:Sadly, much longer than that. Our case was based on a case being argued in the Supreme Court. So the party briefs (and amicus briefs) were available online. This made research considerably easier.

Like 3 days on the appellee brief, but 3 weeks on the appellant brief.

We only do Supreme Court cases, but it's against the honor code to look at any briefs online here.beachbum wrote:Our case was based on a case being argued in the Supreme Court. So the party briefs (and amicus briefs) were available online. This made research considerably easier.

That sucks. Our prof actually encouraged us to read the briefs to make sure we weren't missing anything.ilovesf wrote:We only do Supreme Court cases, but it's against the honor code to look at any briefs online here.beachbum wrote:Our case was based on a case being argued in the Supreme Court. Re: how much time did you sink into your appellant brief
I would like to echo this. Pulled an all-nighter on my draft (which had countless, careless errors), and got a way higher score than others who were putting in hours everyday for the month before it was due. Not really fair, but it's all subjective grading as someone else said and there's nothing you can really do about it. That being said, I probably spent a total of 20 hours combined.Flips88 wrote:Amount of work ≠ quality of work.

57 hours, 15 minutes, more-or-less evenly spaced over a 4-week period.

I more or less spent most of my time doing it, from when it was assigned to when it was due. It paid off also.

I spent too long.
It is due tuesday for me and I have no motivation at all to write it.

I spent two days with about 16 hours each day, plus probably about 12 other hours scattered over a few weeks. Yes, I procrastinated a lot. Did my research early and wrote much later. After we received about 4 other appellate briefs from classmates to prep us for oral arguments, I don't feel like I did terrible.
