BlueBook Online down???

Post by as stars burn » Sun Feb 05, 2012 2:41 am

Is anyone else having trouble accessing Bluebook online? I only have an online subscription, and I haven't been able to access the site all weekend. I'm about ready to throw my computer out the window.

It seems that their site's registration for legalbluebook.com has expired and has either been taken by someone else, or just needs to be paid. I have some doubt this will be solved soon, i.e., in the next 24 hours.

A lot of site domains expire February 1st, including a lot of the ones at my school for student orgs. Wouldn't be shocked if this was the job of some kid at Chicago or Harvard to maintain and they blew it.

Perhaps it's a sign you should just use the actual book.

although i only have a physical copy of the BB, i bet the online version is actually pretty useful in that it has to be infinitely easier to find specific rules. but yeah, everyone should at least own a physical copy even if you predominately use the online version, if for nothing else this exact scenario.

/unhelpful observation

It has been driving me crazy all weekend. My draft of my law review note is due Monday, and most of my citations are complex international stuff and internet and journal citations. Plus, I don't own a physical copy. I want a free year!!!

For all of you with immediate need of citation help, this may prove at least somewhat useful -

In my defense, the online bluebook is awesome; I'd have to pay another fee to buy the book (on top of the online fee I had already paid); my school generally only uses ALWD so I haven't had to use Bluebook up until for this particular adjunct professor and none of my internships specifically preferred Bluebook over ALWD. But I just found out my professor doesn't care what citation format we use so I stuck with ALWD (this is probably because legal writing 1 and 2 are taught with ALWD at my school).
