NYU Cutoffs
Hi there
I'm wondering if anyone has info on NYU's percentiles? Got a 3.44 last semester, wanted to know about where that puts me. Gracias

With a 3.33 median, a 3.44 will place you above 50% but not by much. You can utilize the link provided at the top of this forum to estimate your rank, but it will be a rough estimate as NYU doesn't give much information to help on anchoring the ranks.
If you want an arbitrary guess, I'd put you around upper 40%

Re: NYU Cutoffs
Median 1L GPA is lower than 3.33. The median student will get more B+'s than A-'s.
Mandatory First Year Curve
A+: 0-2% (target = 1%)
A: 7-13% (target = 10%)
A-: 16-24% (target = 20%)
Maximum for A tier = 31%
B+: 22-30% (target = 26%)
Maximum grades above B = 57%
B: remainder
B-: 4-8% (target = 6%)
C/D/F: 0-5%
Anyway, I'd say 3.44 is somewhere between top 40% and top 35%, so we pretty much agree.

Re: NYU Cutoffs
NYU admins confirmed at the grades group therapy session that the median is a little below a 3.30. Seen a previous estimate here that put 3.43/44 etc. at Top 30%. Best guess for you is top 30-40%.

It was some stupid seminar-like thing where they discussed grades. Idk, I didn't go.3|ink wrote:really?legalmindedfella wrote:NYU admins confirmed at the grades group therapy session

Said that without even thinking about it, but yeah, event geared toward reassuring people about their grades and what to do if they didn't pan out. Not meaning to disparage the admins, I'm sure it was helpful for some people.

Curious about this median data as well. In the info session did they say if it was a 3.30 median for 1Ls after first semester? 1Ls after first year? or for the school at large?

Re: NYU Cutoffs
Said a bit under 3.30 for 1Ls, and a bit over a 3.3 (or B+, vague) for 2Ls and 3Ls. 2Ls slightly higher grades than 3Ls, with the 2L/3L rise attributable to the curve being slightly relaxed for the upper-division classes.Detrox wrote:Curious about this median data as well. Didn't have any breakdown between semesters for 1Ls.
Have a bit more info from that which I figure probably isn't for public sharing, any interested NYUers can message me for it.
