NYU Law Honors GPA Cutoff
I was wondering if anyone from last year knew what the cutoff was for the 2L honors awards (Butler, Allen, McKay) and also for Coif at graduation. I know there was a post about this on autoadmit a while back, but it's a bit dated due to the new curve and doesn't really flesh out where the cutoff is.

Re: NYU Law Honors GPA Cutoff
Anecdotally I've heard that last year a 3.76 was good enough for Allen and that a 3.78 was good enough for top 8% provisional coif given second semester 3L. Since I don't think NYU ever releases these numbers, its basically impossible to know what the actual cutoffs are....lionelhutz123 wrote:I was wondering if anyone from last year knew what the cutoff was for the 2L honors awards (Butler, Allen, McKay) and also for Coif at graduation. Also, what are the percentages for each and when are they given? Are these things purposely kept mysterious or am I just really bad at googling? (Or both.)

I think it's in the student handbook. Butler is top 10 students after 4 semesters, Allen is top 10% and I think McKay is top 25%. Magna cum laude is top 10% at graduation and cum laude is top 25%. Coif is also top 10%(with the top 8% being provisionally awarded it during spring semester 3L). Since I believe they calculate magna and coif differently when it comes to transfers, its theoretically possible to get one but not the other. However there is no info out there beyond anecdotes about what GPAs are required for any of these.arism87 wrote:Also, what are the percentages for each and when are they given? Has anyone heard about provisional coif yet?
