Just completed my first semester of law school, did well, but may have to take a leave of absence due to personal reasons. What are my options if I want to drop and want to return to law school in a few years. Would I have to reapply to my current school? Can I transfer my first semester credits to another school? Can I apply to another school based on my 1L grades?

Ask your school? At my school, for example, there is a student affairs counselor who one can talk to and ask for further guidance. I had a lot of crazy personal medical issues spring of 1L and they gave me a variety of options.

Your school may have different options, so itis your best bet to talk to them. To drop out, you would need to talk to them anyway (as opposed to just not showing up)

my school has said i can take a semester leave of absence due to a medical issue, but i'm also not happy at my school for unrelated reasons and if I decide to return to school next year or at some point in the future I'd want to go elsewhere. however, my understanding is that I could not reapply to start over at another school OR apply to another school as a transfer with only one semester under my belt. is this correct?
