How big of a distinction is EIC of secondary journal Forum

So the first semester of 2L is coming to a close, and my journal has elections early on in the Spring. I think I want to run for EIC, but I wanted some outside unbiased input. I know the workload is a lot, and I can imagine an EIC grades dropping maybe a little due to the extra time commitment being EIC requires. However, I feel like its a distinction you carry for a lifetime, and I don't think I would mind the extra work. What are your thoughts? It should be noted that if I get any of the top three positions on my journal, I would be unable to do a clinic due to the journal rules. Also, for reference, my journal is among the top in its specialty and according to the W&L rankings its in the low 100's overall for specialty journals. Thanks.

If you're considering running for the top three positions, just go for it. All of those positions are going to have a lot of work, and only one will get most of the credit. FWIW, I'm an EIC of a similar journal and do not think it really takes much away from class/studying -- I just have to be more efficient at times and use up some of my down time. Also, it is the next best thing to LR, and at least people won't assume you're lazy. Beware that it involves a lot of people management and administration.

PS: If you are EIC, you can probably change that clinic rule . . . perk of the job.
